INs and OUTs

Not sure I'd sign a player if they insist on taking an extended holiday (more than a month) during the season as doesn't show 100% commitment.

All conjecture at the moment until we know who the player is but to play devils advocate:

Because the quality of the player could mean the difference between making the play-offs or winning the league would you be willing to come to some sort of compromise?

Would you have signed Leigh Rumbold?

Also do you see it differently to a player coming in on loan to gain fitness or get game time? i.e. Someone like Elijah Adebayo.

Honest question not a dig.

Thinking about it, it could be a difficult decision especially if that particular player has been very influential but on the downside form could dip if they jet off. Then they'd need to be the type of person to know they can't just walk straight back in the side. With Leigh with the level we were at I think it worked. I just wouldn't be keen on the idea as other players could then ask for the same privileges.

Yeah I suppose a loan is a similar situation but they're not your player, whereas I would want total focus from my players. Say the player is off for 2 months to Australia his mind might not be totally focused in the weeks leading up to his departure.

With Leigh Rumbold we knew exactly when he was coming back and how long he was staying for.

IMO it wouldn't work with a player who would just take off to do some travelling as and when it took his fancy.

If the player stated the dates he would be missing and stuck to them I don't really see a problem.

I know Matt Lench is highly rated, and the fact he coming from a team that rival's Slough for promotion.is a real coup for our club.

Can't wait to see all the new signings in action.

Just read that we've signed Matt Lench from Hitchin and TBH I still can't believe it.

A player that I've always rated very highly and to prize him away from Hitchin is a real coup for our managers.

Still not sure how they did it but truly fantastic work from Bakes and Unders!!

Welcome to the Rebels Matt Lench.

We are delighted to get Matt, with his move into central London for work it works out easier for him to get to Slough on the 20 minute Paddington train than to Hitchin.

We have been talking to him for a while and it was a difficult decision as he didn't want to seem to be taking a sideways step as such , which is totally understandable. However the chance to play at our place on the 3G and with the summer signings we have made probably swung it in our favour!

He had interest from a big Conference National team however was not prepared to give up on his long term career for full time football, but it gives you an indication on the quality we are bringing to the club!

Really nice lad also who I am sure everyone will warm to!

Exciting signing looking forward to see him play, well done on all involved in the transfer. I don't know the protocol but presumably he wasn't contracted to Hitchin and you had to ask their permission first to speak with him? I suppose you could argue it's a sideways move but we have a much larger home support and a brand new stadium in our favour. Could be an tantalising midfield of Lench and Dunn in the middle with Dobbo and Harris/Gilkes on the wings supplying Flood/James/Wadkins!!!

Bakes, can we take from this that Matt Lench doesn't drive?

So five new additions then:-

Jack Turner

Alan Inns

George Wells

Matthew Lench

Brad Wadkins

Other than recalling Brad Wadkins having a good match against us in January I am not familiar with any of them, are those more knowledgeable than me convinced that:-

1. They will all be in the starting eleven most of this season?

2. Will provide the 11+ additional points we will require to challenge for automatic promotion?

Simon Dunn and Matt Lench are two very attacking players which will look very good going forward but can we afford to play with just those two in midfield? If not then something has to give either in defence or out wide.

As regards Matt Lench it sounds like you haven't seen us play Hitchin in the last few seasons Curtis?

If a player is not on a contract does a club needs permission to speak to a player in the close season?

I have, but didn't recall him.

Looked back to see and he didn't play at our place in 2015/6, and found this clip of him finishing well against us in November 2014:-

His goal is around the 3 minute 55 second point.
