Promotion

It's gonna be a scramble for the title this year. But which clubs are actually seeking promotion? (obviously this may be academic with restructuring!?)

Enfield Town have stated their intention to seek promotion should they win the league (the requisite facilities should be in place by the deadline)

Someone told me that Concord's ground wasn't good enough for promotion - is this true? (it looked adequate when there earlier this season)

I presume Ilford are seeking promotion?

Is Romford's groundshare long enough for them to be promoted?

Sawbridgeworth?

thats why ford moved to barkingside and concords ground looked close to standard except no seats or toilets in ground.

All promoted clubs will need to have the necessary (existing) ground grading.

There will be normal promotion and relegation within the pyramid to start with.

After that, there will be 15 clubs stepping up to fill the 15 spaces left at the current Ryman/Dr. Marten's/Unibond level by clubs promoted to the new Conference Div 2.

However, this does not necessarily mean one club from each League but the 15 clubs will be selected according to the geographical regions where it is considered more clubs are needed. I believe the FA feel they will need more clubs in the north of the country due to the fact that there aren't that many clubs compared to the other regional areas.

The counter-argument is that London & the South East has the greater population and, therefore, more players and, therefore, more clubs and that this area should, therefore, have more promoted clubs.

There is still a lot of talking to be done on this issue but it is clear that some leagues will have no increased promotion prospects whilst, in other leagues, second and even third placed clubs may be promoted. It's just that nobody knows where yet.

thanks for that pbtfc, that means that the spartan and essex senior leagues could also have to look for new recruits! our league is small enough as it is.

potters bar is probably my nearest team as live in cuffley, could be v & e tho. enjoyed many battles with you guys. our coach lee johnson used to play for you as well, do you know him?

If your belief is correct it really is a nonsense as there are more northern clubs in the Football League and always have been!

It should also be remembered that many clubs in the North East Counties league, Bishops Aukland, Whitley Bay, Crook, Blyth Spartans etc refused to join the original alliance which meant that Cheshire and Lancashire clubs could be claimed to have been over represented in the original Alliance/Gola League.

The possible problem this time, as I see it, is that once the two southern feeder leagues to the Conference (run by Dr. Martens & Ryman Leagues) have been filled, a number of more centrally based "northern" clubs will be needed to make up the numbers in the midlands-based feeder league (also to be run by the DM League). I think this is why the FA feel they may need more promoted clubs to make up the northern feeder league (to be run by the Unibond League).

The FA are coming to talk to Spartan South Midlands League clubs on the restructuring issue next Wednesday (14th). Hopefully, things will be a bit clearer after that. I don't know if any similar meeting is planned with ESL clubs.

I understand that the ESL and the Spartan/South Midlands League (no doubt someone will correct me) looked to a merger a few years back, not nothing came of it. Surely if this whole thing goes tits up, ie losing member clubs with nothing to replace them, then surely another merger should be an option. Hey what about the Kent and Essex leagues joining up? Ramsgate or Deal away first game of the season...Cockles, Jellied Eels, Day trip to France before the game, asylum seekers ...err maybe not then...
