Leamington Playoff Semi Final

Recommended Posts

Your post cheered me up no end, even made me laugh. So your theme is that I can't be a true fan because I comment on what I see even if its against the team on occasions, so all those Arsenal fans who moan at the team are not true fans  yet 60,000 turn up on a weekly basis.Be interesting to know how many games you missed this season.Or how far back your ancestry with in Slough F C. goes.

All you need to know is I was there in the dark and dismal days when the clubs future was in major doubt and the likes of Radders, Sliski, Liam, Brighton, Redwine, Fulham, myself and a few hardcore fans were still there following the team to places in the wilds of Essex on cold Tuesday nights, and Capital league games where everyone knew exactly who each other was, whilst glory hunters like you were sat at home watching Man U or Chelsea and not giving a f*** about what was happening to the club.  Now that things have turned round you are jumping on the band wagon and claiming to be a life long fan.

What then pi$$es me off is that you then have the bare face check to moan about the performances and imply that the team and managers are not good enough and should have won the league outright - I am just grateful that the club is firstly still in existence and now has its own ground - anything on the pitch is a bonus.

Well spoken 1965! Not too sure what longevity of support has to do with it anyway. We all have, as has been stated many times before, a right to express our opinions whether we have been supporting from just recently or more long term. My opinion, and it seems to be like that of many others, is what sticks in the craw is the constant negativism eminating from certain quarters. The comparison with the likes of Arsenal is invidious as far as I am concerned. I prefer non league football for its general friendliness etc (although before we start another debate I accept that unfortunately things aren't always as nice as we would hope). So as far as I am concerned it has been a great season thanks to the massive effort involving collectively The Chairman, Management, Players, Trust and Supporters. As some will know I am involved with Slough Town PALS FC and after the BOBi tournament last Sunday one of our players came up to me and told me how proud he was to wear the badge. He is autistic and can be very withdrawn but what commitment! Being disappointed and frustrated is the lot of of all supporters. I look forward to next season with great anticipation. Incidentally, for what it is worth, I started following The Rebels in season 1958/59 and when we play away rather than ask for a concession at the turnstiles I pronounce myself to be an "Old Codger". This Old Codger has missed 3 games this season one of which was whilst celebrating his 70th birthday. Best wishes to everyone including those I disagree with. COYR!!

No, kirk - you're entitled to your opinion and we're entitled to disagree with it.

It's not relevant but I've been supporting the rebels since 1967 - hope that goes back far enough for you!

One of the reasons I prefer non-league to league football is that most fans are supporters who actively encourage and support rather than feel that because they pay for entry or season ticket they have a right to call for managers to be sacked or are abusive and unpleasant. (Please note I am NOT saying you are abusive.)

I prefer to take a positive stance because it's more enjoyable for me and because of the scale of the setup what we say can genuinely be supportive and make a difference.

Am I disappointed we didn't make the playoff final - of course I am.

Do I find it galling that we played a very good Leamington team three times this season and the only time that they bested us was the one that mattered most - of course I do, and so do all the players and both managers, they're not stupid and do this alongside their day jobs remember.

Would I rather take a positive stance and congratulate the team on getting so close in the hope that encouragement will mean it takes less goes at the playoffs to get promoted out of this division - yes I would.

I've said before that I coach at a similar level in a different (less well funded sport) and I know from personal experience that positive encouragement goes a lot further with someone taking their sport seriously and means that on those occasions when you do ask for something to be corrected you're far more likely to get your point across and get the reaction you want.

Rebel Brewer - as you can see from my preceding post we are in basic agreement. The interesting thing is of course had we not done the double over Leamington in the first place then we would of not qualified for the play-offs. Mind you (intro for Kirk) had we not lost away to Cinderford and at home to Cirencester then we would have etc.etc. As the old song went "accentuate the positive".

Hardly jumping on the band wagon, been watching them since I was ten.My great uncle played for them between the wars and since I was old enough to travel have yet to miss a game.

Also I don't think you will find any where that I have called for management change.

The right result in terms of position. I read the Leamington forum with interest when earlier in the season many fans were calling for the managers head, you can bet those same fans are all over him now, amazing! So a local game to come with Farnborough (just down the road for me) plus Tiverton which depending when its scheduled could be a nice day trip.
