Leamington Playoff Semi Final

Recommended Posts

As Mark said, the best team on the night won. We were second to far too many balls.

That said, this season has been fantastic and has had so many positives that it is hard to fell too disappointing about tonights result.

We have successfully moved into our new ground, we are by far the best supported team in the league and every home match has been great value for money with plenty of brilliant football. We have exceeded our pre season expectations and look in fantastic shape going into the future. The difference between 10 years ago and today is absolutely huge.

p.s. not sure if I will be able to speak tomorrow after tonights chanting. It will have been worth it though.

Think tonight was a perfect summary of our season in so many ways.

Lost 1-0 to a quality side , who once in front barley gave us a sniff ( a la Hitchen Chesham and Chippenham at home etc)

Got through the first half OK but could not step up in 2nd

Conceded in first 10 mins after half time.

Did not pass it around on bumpy pitch.

Went long to avoid but that negated our wingers

When 442 was not working the change ( with the personnel available ) did not really work either.

In the final analysis the league does not lie. We were the 5th best team in the division. At the start of the season we would have been delighted to be here.

last year we were 17th , still at SYCOB, playing in front of 250 die hards.

8 years ago this very day we lost 1-0 at Fleet to finish 2nd bottom of the South and West but got a reprieve due to other teams going bust.

It's been a long hard road back. Promotion this season would have been the icing on the cake.

But the Cake tastes lovely anyway.

Well done to all who have got us here. Enjoy the summer and let's look forward to our first Full season at Arbour Park and a tilt at the Title.

We may have had a better season than last year and that's good, but we were in a position to get promoted and never looked like doing so, for goodness sake didn't we beat Leamington 6-0

a little while ago.

Next season will be harder because teams will have sussed us out, we will require some fresh input from better class players.

We seem to be a bit like Arsenal this season never on the ball when needed.

Agree with most of what you say Stan.

You say we lost last night to a quality side which is true but IMO we have more quality in our side than Leamington, as proven by our 2 wins against them this season, but the difference being, as per the last couple of months, we've been unable adapt our play to end of season pitch conditions where 'battling' and 'digging in' for a result have come to the fore.

As has been hinted before by Bakes and Unders we've got a squad together full of quality players with the specific aim of playing on 3G/good pitches.

Teams that win leagues i.e. Hungerford, Poole, Chippenham etc not only play good football but also know how to win ugly which to some extent on the poorer surfaces has been our achilles heel this season.

As you were there last night Kirk, in your opinion what was the difference between our 6-0 and 2-0 wins against Leamington and last nights 1-0 defeat?

Kirk - so who are you?

Disgruntled ex-player who was asked to leave.

Jobless manager who likes coming on forums to stir the brown stuff hoping that the managers go and you can get your CV in.

A bitter and twisted fan from one of the lowly local clubs struggling to survive.

Because one thing is for sure you are not a true Slough Town fan as you would not post the comments you do - you have been sussed!

I actually worry a little about keeping up the pressure next season.

After the honeymoon period of the new stadium was over we had a mid table season, it's much better than being down the league but hopefully we can get some staying power and keep up the huge end of things

Fun year though! It's really nice to have the team back home and a bunch of lads who can play to the standards of the quality support they get

Your post cheered me up no end, even made me laugh. So your theme is that I can't be a true fan because I comment on what I see even if its against the team on occasions, so all those Arsenal fans who moan at the team are not true fans  yet 60,000 turn up on a weekly basis.Be interesting to know how many games you missed this season.Or how far back your ancestry with in Slough F C. goes.
