Chesham 17th April

Recommended Posts

My feelings are a bit ambivalent this evening Obviously overjoyed to have secured a playoff place but disappointed not to have beaten at last a poor Chesham side This was Cheshams ninth consecutive winless game and the previous six all straight losses I really thought we would win this one.

Irishadrian, we should be old enough and wise enough to know, despite Chesham being in poor form and BTW we were not exactly in fine form ourselves, that a local derby against Chesham is always a hard fought battle for local bragging rights and form goes out of the window.

As it turned out we didn't have to beat Chesham but we can take satisfaction that over the over the 90 minutes we were the better team but on the day the winner just wouldn't go in.

Well we do have a very good record v Leamington this season but that won't count for much in a play off. The slates are wiped clean and these really are cup final matches where the team who has the most skill, luck, energy and passion on the night (usually!) wins. I'd prefer not to be away to Merthyr first just because they're the furthest although their pitch may suit us?

As expected a very tough game and after going 1-0 down within a minute we came back strongly to get an excellent equalizer from LEM.

Games at this time of the season are very rarely classics, it's all about rolling your sleeves up, adapting to the conditions and grinding out a result.

Well done and big thanks to Bakes and Unders and all the players for getting us into the play-offs and regardless of the outcome it's been a fantastic season.

I'm sure Hitchin would rather be playing Leamington rather than Merthyr if only for the mid week travelling.

With H&Y relegated it's nigh on a certainty that Merthyr will win and grab a home draw.

Hitchin away to Basingstoke could go either way and for conspiracy theorists out there   perhaps Hitchin won't be over keen to get the win?

With it possibly being Basingstokes last ever game at the Camrose they will also probably be looking to sign off with a win.

Also, a bit like we might do, Hitchin will more than likely give a run out to players who have not had much game time.

There is already talk on the Hitchin forum of them wanting to finish 5th to play Leamington and jokingly us fielding our under 9's.

Congratulations to Bakes Unders and the squad we must also thank all those players who have been injured or left over the season and the contribution they gave to help get us in the play offs.

I thought we defended superbly today with any one of the back four vying for MOTM.

Real shame it was Guy Hollis's last appearance of the season, he came back into the starting 11 with a bang and didn't put a foot wrong and very nearly finished with a goal.

Also a special mention for Nathan Smart who came in at right back was solid all game and put last week firmly behind him.

A  good result on a very difficult pitch. Congratulations to all of the staff and players.

It looks like we will have to do it the hard way in the playoffs. My preference would be Leamington in the semis and Hitchin in the final. Unfortunately it does not loo like we will get a home game  particularly with Merthyr facing Hayes and Yeading on Saturday.

We've done it before!!

I'm guessing the home side in the PO's keeps the gate receipts and it's not shared? Although still possible it's unlikely we'll play at home which is a real shame as we could attract anything between 1,000-2,000 which would obviously be a real financial boost.

As far as I'm aware gate receipts are shared.
