Player of the Season

Recommended Posts

Mark Scott for me and it isn't a sympathy vote.

The reason for his selection is that if I was picking a first eleven made up of best players in the Southern Premier Division this season, Mark Scott would be my goalkeeper.

I like Darren Chitty of Chippenham but having seen more of Scotty that would shade it.

Hard to choose this season and unfortunately the likes of Flood, Manny won't be considered as they only joined half way or more through the season. Smart has to be up there considering he wasn't even sure he'd be kept on and then was played not in his natural position.

Personally I think Chitty is the best in the league, but Scotty is not far behind at all.

As for player of the year it's between Dunn, Dobson, Nisbet and (home man of the match) Lee Togwell

The league usually does a team of the season so will be interesting if any of our team get in it this season. I would be surprised if we don't get at least one player in it.

I think Mark Nesbitt has been a quality signing in terms of what he brings to our team,in way of his leadership, coolness on the ball and his general unruffled play. He is prone to making the odd gaff but he has proved he's at ease in the Southern Premier division.

I think Lee Togwell has had a noteworthy season with us, as has Simon Dunn. I expect both of them to be retained for next season.

My only gripe with them both, is that on 3g at home they give stand out performances but on grass, in some of the away games I've seen, they've can be uninvolved and drop off from the intensity needed.

For me Dobbo has had a great season and I would think he will be popular among the fans for Player of the Season.

As for Floody,Manny Williams and Nathan Smart, as good as they've been, they haven't been with us a full season, so I wouldn't include them for selection.

You say about Nathan Smart not being here, he has played in 31 of the 55 games so far.His first game was Ashford (15 games into the season). So he has been involved in 31 of the last 40 games.

ER, yes I know that but for me he isn't a regular first teamer.

I know he's proved his worth in a number of games but I wouldn't choose him as our Player of the Season.

31 out of the last 40 is not regular.?

I'm not saying who I'll vote for.

Would you consider Guy or Puts?

As SRJ has said ' you can vote for whoever you want to, regardless of the number of games a player has played.

My choice is Mark Scott because whenever he has played, he rarely put's a foot wrong.

If I was to pick an outfield player it would be a toss up between Sean Fraser and Mark Nesbitt.

As for Guy or Lewis, Guy is has been Mr Dependable ever since he came to the club. The first half of the season alongside Mark Nesbitt they looked class. Guy is still one of our best players at our club,so nothing has changed there but of late he has found it hard getting back to his rocksteady self, dropping the odd clanger but in no way is he finished with our team ! ha ha !

As for Putts, he's been in Dobbo's shadow for most of the season, with bad luck coming through injury.

On his day he is as good as Dobbo but no doubting, Dobbo this season has had the edge and been outstanding for us.

Poor Lewis just hasn't had a look in.

What about under rated player of the season?

I would say Nathan Webb. I think a lot of people fail to recognize how good he can be for us.

I like him as a player and the character he has.

Too often the fall guy in centre midfield in my opinion.

The question of if a player did not start the season should they be eligible is an interesting one, especially players like Manny who has only played 9 games but had a big impact in those games, or Ramone Rose who played 1 and scored 1 so has the highest goals/game ratio of anyone?

I personally think there should be a criteria on who can vote to stop someone getting there mates in to vote and gerrymander the outcome (well it is Slough and we know how elections are run locally) - I think that the only ones allowed to vote should be from Staines and I will be voting for Gary Gokman for his unselfish loyalty to the club and standing up without hesitation to go in goal after Scotties injury.
