v Kings Lynn

Recommended Posts

Also noticed that with dunns goal yesterday we now have 6 players this season to hit double figures for goals. Proof that it's been a team effort this season and I certainly can't think of another season in recent memory where that has happened.

We have nobody on the leagues top goal scorers list as everyone in our team has chipped in with goal.

In the league only:

Gav James - 13

Flood - 11

Dobson - 11

Harris - 10

Moone - 8

Dunn - 8

Hollis - 5

16 different scorers

Worth noting that Gav James was out injured for 3 months, and Floody only joined us in December.

I can pretty much guarantee that if we had them both available all season, they would both be in the top scorers list.

Fantastic return from Wazza Dobbo and Dunny from midfield, and the 5 from Guy where in the previous 3 seasons he had only scored 2!

As above. An easy win against a shambolic defensive display. With some less greedy play we would be above hitchin right now. However, still a very professional display where we dominated throughout, I just hope the 3 or 4 extra goals we should have got today don't haunt us at the end of the season.

DJD, I think 2 or 3 of our best goal scoring chances came from mis-directed headers from crosses. I can't remember very much if any greedy play costing us goals.

DJD, If I remember rightly 2/3 very good chances were headers from good crosses which if on target would have been goals but unfortunately they went over the bar.

Not really sure about your point that they should have passed across goal from the headers bit. For me they were clear cut chances to score.

One small point I would make is that you do not miss a chance if you don't get yourself in the position to miss it in the first place. You can have any number of good crosses into the area but if the forwards don't themselves anticipate then they won't connect with the cross and they will therefore not miss the chance except for the fact that they should have been there in the first place. Bit convoluted that but we have scored with some cracking headers this season and are amongst the highest scorers in the league.

Of course you're Right Dave, if you don't get into the right position you won't have the chance to score or miss a goal.

I think DJD's point is that players should have passed the ball instead of trying to score a goal themselves. Personally I think they were clear cut chances to score so why try and pass to another player?

Several of our headed efforts were made by players who were beyond the back post when they made the header which is a difficult position to score from as the angle becomes very acute. There were several times when these headers should have been directed back across goal rather than at it trying to score.

Perhaps Chris Flood was trying to head back across the goal from beyond the far post but accidentally scored for our first goal? I think it's natural for goal scorers to have a go. If they head back across then others will criticise them for doing that! I accept that another 3 goals on Saturday would have put us level on goal difference with Hitchin but above the on goals scored. Even so we are on that front at a 7 goal advantage which could be crucial. We all want the same thing so let's give the team massive vocals on Saturday. COYR!!

It is slightly different when the goal keeper runs out of his goal getting no where near the ball and leaving an empty net like he did for Flood to score than when they stay on their line like the rest of the chances.

While I was disappointed that we didn't score more goals against Kings Lynn, I,  of course, was pleased with the 3 points and the fact that Liam Enver Marum took his goal well.

LEM had a fairly quiet game but if he can reignite his partnership with Chris Flood,we have the makings of a formidable forward line, arriving just in time for the last few matches and importantly the play offs.

I don't normally keep bouncing back but here goes - if the goalkeeper had stayed on his line and Floody had, following the logic before us, headed back across what would have happened if the ball had subsequently been cleared? No doubt criticism for not having had a go at goal. As 3 spirit says happy with the 3 points, happy to see Liam get his goal and with the well taken goals by Chris and Simon Dunn. Kettering here we come! COYR!

What would have happened if on the several occasions the players who had headed at goal and missed, headed it back across goal and we scored 3 more as a result???

All speculation of course and as you said, and I said several days ago, the 3 points is what matters most.
