Frome away 25th March

Recommended Posts

Thought I would start this thread for two reasons.

Firstly I will not be traveling and parting with any money to a club which still holds the 1970's values of racist chanting and insults, matched with the "fans" sole interest of getting as drunk as possible and trying to pick fights whilst the stewards look on and take no action.  The pitch will be its usual bog and the Frome tactics will be hoof the ball long and foul, then intimidate the ref with their usual thuggish charm.

Secondly this will allow those who cannot wait until Saturday (no midweek game so get all aroused by) to post the usual stream of wild speculation and non-factual comments that fill far too many of the threads on this forum.

By the way I mean the second paragraph and not the first one. Never been to Frome's ground and by your description, Rebel1965,don't want to.

Sorry Rebel1965 don't agree with your post

1-You and your son are important voices in the noise from the fans behind the goal and the team need your support

2- Racism must be faced and beaten, not going means that they win, if you hear it either outsing them or report them

3- Does this mean you will never visit Basingstoke again after the racist songs they sang few weeks ago

Club motto is 'Serve with honour' join the other fans and rise above actions

We went two years ago to the match just after the terrorist attacks in Paris.

The things they were saying to Charlie Mpi in particular were disgusting and have no place in a civilised culture let alone a football ground.

They happily and openly mocked the victims of the terror attack in Paris and said they had it coming. I have a lot of family in France and Paris.

The few stewards they did have were at the centre of the chanting and mocking!!!

We will never go back there again or give them a penny!!!

The players on the pitch for Frome were pure thugs and the fans off it were pure scum.

RebelAde, you know me and my dad will always support the club and the players and have travelled far to support them but Frome is a place we will forever refuse to visit again.

I dont think some of these comments are helpful In fact they are probably helping to write the Frome managers pre match pep talk! The best reason for going is to see a Slough victory which I believe is the most likely outcome We have a free week. Tonight Frome must play on one of the most strength sapping pitches in our league with only 3 days to recover before Saturday Although reasonably placed they have been wobbling recently In the home form chart over the last 10 games they are 15/24 and really have little to play for We of course are juggling for our play off place and have real incentive to do well.

Well I'm going and not going to be put off by some backward idiots. As it's been said you can't let these types win and if it's that bad surely someone would have reported them by now? A quick email/letter to the club, even the local police wouldn't take much effort? Frome don't have anything to play for but after Kings Lynn and Biggleswade I'm taking nowt for granted!

So you think ignoring racism is acceptable just because you don't want another team to possibly use it as motivation!!!

Absolutely not I oppose racism in all its forms The point I was making is that your comments are historic about events that occured several years ago Why would you assume that the current Frome team or support would behave likewise ?

A quick reminder that this was a team managed by someone who was caught betting against his own team. Morals were not exactly a strong suit at the club.

We did send complaints to the club but when the club stewards and officials are part of the problem I am sure you will be surprised to know they didn't take any interest in the complaint. To make a complaint to the police you need video evidence otherwise there is absolutely nothing they can do. A very good friend of mine is a former Chief Superintendent and advised us without video they can't do anything.

“Banbury scored a very early goal. What followed for the next 45mins was one of the nastiest performances I have seen for a long time. Frome were disgraceful. A very bad tackle on Ricky led to a booking. Manny was kicked from pillar to post. An assault on Zac which on 364 days would be a straight red went unpunished. George Nash cynically flattened out of the game. No wonder Frome have a bad disciplinary record.”

That is from a Banbury fan from their meeting at the beginning of the month. It seems not much has changed.

If anyone thinks that by ignoring a problem you are beating it or somehow “not letting them win” then I would disagree, as in my eyes ignoring something means you are happy to let it happen but don’t want to be part of stopping it. The only way to beat it is to punish them however possible, our way is to never give them a penny which they need to survive.

I sincerely hope this has never happened to anyone. But if you have ever been in a situation where you don’t know if someone close to you has been hurt or killed and you can’t find out, you know it is one of the worst and scariest feelings in the world. To then have people mocking that situation just days later is gut wrenching and disgusting, especially if you know there is nothing which can be done to stop them.

If other people want to go to Frome to support the rebels then I encourage them to do so and will never try to stop them. We have honourable and loyal fans who make supporting our club enjoyable with friendly jokes but know there are lines you do not cross. Watching non-league football is about enjoying yourself, making friends and escaping the rest of the world for a few hours to just be happy.

I hope anyone who does go is welcomed with a smile and is treated with respect and enjoys their time. 3 points would be a bonus.

I wont be making any further comments, and hope we do have a strong following for what is without a doubt a very tough but very important fixture in our current aims of getting a home play off match.

I cannot make the game due to work and have only once before travelled to frome when we played them in the league cup semi final in batemans era. Although there were not a lot of them in attendance that night it was clear then that the home contingent were not a particularly welcoming or friendly bunch and it was therefore not a very enjoyable evening (not helped by the fact we lost). If I was free on Saturday I would travel as my thinking would be I'd want to help us leave victorious for ourselves but also to damage their albeit minimal play off hopes. However I will not be criticising our Staines branch for not wishing to travel given the personal nature of the abuse they had to endure on their previous visit. In their absence (and mine) I hope those rebels who do travel make some noise to replace us!!!

Looks like it has generated an interesting discussion - I will pick and chose which games I go to as it is not mandatory to attend every game, and yes it was reported to stewards who just shrugged, as for Basingstoke I did not hear any chants, but that does not mean they did not happen - did you report the chant to a steward and what happened?

Hitting Frome in their pocket by not attending will have the most impact on the tin pot club rather than giving them a bumper pay day!

Unless you know of hundreds of other fans not going for exactly the same reason by you and your son not attending won't make any difference to their finances. They're fairly poorly suppported so Slough's visit I'm sure will be above average for them.

'Every little helps ' as the ad goes! Or in this case hinders.

Over the years I've not actively boycotted many games but there have been some. Going to football is meant to be a pleasure , if a torturous one at times , but never a burden. If anyone is not comfortable with a situation then perfectly understandable that they choose to steer clear. We all have different tolerances for different things. Some places I won't go but others would be fine. Some places they have a problem with I don't.

In this case you literally ' pays yer money and takes yer choice '

You are clearly not aware that Frome desperately need £10,000 for new floodlights.
