Basingstokes big day out

Recommended Posts

A remarkable and resourceful performance considering an unexpected event. Lets all wish Scotty a swift and complete recovery. We needed those points today since all the other leading teams won apart from postponed Hitchin So no change and all to play for Today really brought home to me the growing self belief in the squad.

Firstly hope that Mark Scott is on the mend after a very worrying collision and that he makes a full recovery.

One of the most spirited performances I have seen from Slough, who put Marks injury behind them and focused on giving Gurkan "Gary" Gokman as much protection as they could.

The 2nd & 3rd goals gave a much needed buffer to ensure the points.

All members of the team did exactly what was required and the true team spirit shone through - well done all of the team.

Full credit to Gurkhan for putting on the keepers shirt after seeing what had happened to Scottie and as usual he gave his 100% commitment in the alien position.  Although two goals got past him, he did what was asked of him without hesitation - a very under-rated member of the Slough Town squad - well done Gary - Turkeys No. 1.

Don't always agree with you,Rebel1965 but think your post here is excellent and spot on.

It would have been a travesty of justice if Basingstoke had grabbed an equalizer.

Feel for Mark Scott and wish him a speedy recovery. Let's hope the injury isn't as bad as it looked. He has been a revelation since he arrived at Slough and is one of the main reasons for Slough's rejuvenation as one of the best teams in this Premier Division.

Credit to the Slough players today. They were all first class.

Floody was man of the match but Gurkhan is our superhero !  Hilarious the 'Turkey's Number 1' chant.

All best wishes to Mark Scott for a full recovery.

I thought that was a superb performance. We were well on top prior to the injury and looked a constant threat going forward. After the change our work rate was even better as we defended resolutely to protect Gokman.

I thought we made them look very ordinary and the two goals flattered them. Anything other than three points would be a travesty.

But totally unimportant when you hear Scotty has broken a bone in his neck. Just hope he has a speedy recovery.

Get well soon Scotty, and hope your recovery is swift. From where i saw it,i don't think there was any blame towards the Basingstoke forward. It was just an unfortunate collision.

There were some real heroes out there today , and after the lengthy break ,we could have lost our shape, but we continued in a professional manner.Three great finishes from Flood and Dobson ,assisted by outstanding work rate from Harris ,Wiiliams and Dunn. The defence were resolute, and a brave performance from Gokman in goal.I love his "save" when trapping the ball from a low cross the Basingstoke right.

Finished 3-2 win with Flood x2 and Dobson getting the goals.

A great start with Flood getting the first goal after just 8 minutes from a corner and with us looking quite comfortable. It didn't last long unfortunately as a Basingstoke player collided with Scott and hit him in the head (accidentally). It was clear straight away that Scotty wasn't ok as he fell to the floor and the players around him looked concerned. An ambulance was called and the game stopped. The game was restarted at about 15:10 and Gokmen was put in goal for the second time in a Slough shirt. The Basingstoke players knew immediately that they were right back in the game as any shot would test Gokmen in goal, however we defended brilliantly at times to really limit their shots. Flood got a second as Manny Wiliams brought the ball down well in the box and laid it off to Flood who was free who calmly put it away. We went in at half time 2-0 up but knowing the game was far from over

We started the second half well and created chances but couldn't quite put them away. Basingstoke then got a free kick in a fairly central position and within shooting distance, the free kick went almost straight at Gokmen who could only parry it but right at a Basingstoke player who got them a goal back. The nerves started to kick in at this point but the team did well and continued to make chances. Williams hit the post and Flood, Dunn and Dobson all forced the keeper into save before Dobson curled one in across goal to make it 3-1. Nerves settled with the 2 goal lead but not for long as Basingstoke eventually found themselves in space and got a clean shot away which being critical Gokmen should have done better with but realistically we all know he is not a natural keeper. The nerves really kicked up again in the final 10 minutes but everyone dug in and kept the ball away from our goal.

A magnificent performance from everyone today but for me Smart and Nisbet really stood out knowing they had to be at their very best and they were, neither goal their fault and the dealt with every thing and cleared their lines.

A big well done to Gokmen for stepping up today to go in goal knowing the pressure was on and he did fairly well in the circumstances.

Well done and thank you to all the fans who made plenty of noise today and it was great to bring in a few new songs and bring back a few old ones as well.

Latest is that Mark Scott has broken a bone in his neck. Of course wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

Great post, 15-10 restart ????

Here's the match photos from the game

There are photos of the action that caused the horrific injury to Mark Scott, but none of them are graphic, so don't be worried if you are unsure of viewing them.

Wishing Scotty a full and speedy recovery

I thought to a man we were excellent yesterday.

Some of the football we played was top draw stuff and the scoreline didn't do justice to what was a superb team performance.

Again there were numerous nominations for MOTM but the effort and work rate that Manny Williams put in defied the laws of ageing.

Exceptional performance from the rebels!

Another player who has not been mentioned is Dobbo back on form i make it 3 goals and 2 assists in the last 2 games and his defending and tackling in midfield yesterday was for the cause.

Get well soon Scotty from all the lads near the home dug-out.

The Basingstoke forum if you want to read?

There is an interesting post by Mike97 under the title 'Slough today' which is also worth a read, which is a separate thread to Slough3 v Basingstoke2 one.

Full credit has to go to the team for doing pretty much everything to protect Gokmen in goal, especially given their team mate had just gone off in an ambulance. Keeping a team that has all week in which to train to just a couple of shots on target is an achievement. A crucial three points ahead of 3 tough away games.
