Hayes 1 Billericay1

We made two changes from Boxing Day with Henty and Davidson replacing the "injured" Okita and the "somewhere else" Andy Jones.

We played with Luke Graham in the middle of a back three with taylor and henty as wing backs and black supporting hockers up front. Have to say I like this formation about as much as the journey to Hayes but in fairness it worked ok today.

we were slow out of the blocks but after about 10 minutes of hangover football we got going and looked the better side. unfortunately hockton limped off with a calf strain after half an hour and we feared the worst. however shortly after that henty was scythed down in the box and leon hunter kept his bottle well to score confidently from the spot. henty was stretchered off but thankfully im told its only bruising. Hockton is suspended for our next game anyway.

hayes equalised early into the second half when taylor allowed the ball to be crossed too easily and luke graham headed an og past weaver. taylor redemmed himself with a goal line clearance but neither side really threatened much in the second half with our best efforts being a weak finish from tolan and a long range shot from black.

on the face of it this is a decent result although i must admit i did go away wondering how on earth hayes had managed to get to 4 th place in the league as they looked very ordinary. for us pat sappleton did well at the back and the midfield three especially leon hunter had good games. hopefully our recent improvement can continue and lets go for it against bedford on sat week.

team:

weaver

reddington graham sappleton

henty (jones s) hunter davidson dormer taylor

black

hockton (tolan)

subs not used: polsten and john!!

Thought it was a decent all round performance today - agree with JL re Hayes - had a few spells where they dominated possession but created boogaloo all. Just as well we've got a wee break now before our next game - hopefully Henty will be fit for that as he played well today before getting a kick on the ankle. Am starting to think that we should be playing Black through the middle more regularly - looked a handful today, particularly when he pushed up alongside Hockton.

Not too worried about the Harrow result - start of the day we were 9 points from safety, now it's 8. If we can continue to pick up results like we have last 5 games and convert some of the draws into wins then we've got a chance.

I can tell you why we are 4th in the league. It is because we played brilliantly from the start of the season, sure you can remember 2-0 win over you in August. We have gone downhill recently only picking up 6 points from the last 5 games. We were abysmal today because our manager persists to play Williams in midfield who sia bsolute [****!!****] and play playerzs out of position. Credit to Billericay, created some good chances and maybe should have won.

PS that 'goal line clearance was more like an in the goal clearance

I thought it was a pretty even match overall with the exception of the first 10 minutes of both halfs when Hayes came at us. Leon Hunter, Mike Black, Redders, Gary Henty and Sappleton all having decent games. Luke Weaver pulled off some good saves...well outstanding saves actually.

I must say that I was surprised that, given the teams high position, the amount of Hayes supporters there (and their average mentioned in the programme). A touch of the Thurrocks, I feel.

But on a plus point, the best burgers in the league so far. Very nice.

Have to say (barring Boxing Day) that there are signs of improvement..We created a number of chances (good ones at that) which with a tad more calmness could have resultd in a good away win..Just a little concerned defensively, with too many players getting in behind us...Weaver needs some confidence still with crosses, but did make a good save toward the end....As for the queue, just got served !! - Our home form is a MUST now...Just 2 wins so far....But hopefully the players will now realise that if they get stuck in, we are more than capable of gaining results...

Yes with regard to 'Ayes supporters comments i did think think that prior to Canveys visit on Boxing Day that Hayes were the best side i'd seen this season when they slaughtered us 2-0 which makes their fall from grace all the more puzzling, although I spose we are in the middle of what counts as a good spell for us and Hayes are struggling a bit presently.

It was also a surprise to read about the miserably low crowds that Hayes have been getting, only averaging 280 for a team thats been towards the top of the league all season is v poor.

I think weve played everyone now and from what ive seen Canvey are home and hosed already. as for us we still have a squeak of getting out of the bottom four so lets hope we can keep up our improvement.

I'd like to congratulate the players on a performance that showed fight, spirit and no lack of determination. Could've been even better if either Henty or Hockton hadn't gone off injured in the first-half. Thought Tolan did more than enough to warrant a starting place next week against Bedford and he could have even nicked it right at the death. I think he gives us pace, mobility and energy and he does seem to be on a mission to score every time he comes on. Dormer for me would've been MOM closely followed by Black. Roll on Bedford!
