LAW 12 FOULS AND MISCONDUCT

CELEBRATION OF A GOAL

Players can celebrate when a goal is scored, but the celebration must not be excessive; choreographed celebrations are not encouraged and must not cause excessive time-wasting.

Leaving the field of play to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offence but players should return as soon as possible.

A player must be cautioned for:

  • climbing onto a perimeter fence
  • gesturing in a provocative, derisory or inflammatory way
  • covering the head or face with a mask or other similar item
  • removing the shirt or covering the head with the shirt

So it's open to the refs interpretation of what's 'excessive'.

Dan Hicks has left, then. He's a bit unlucky to miss out. I thought he exceeded expectations, when he arrived at the club from Marlow, and was paired with Guy Hollis.

Understandable that we've let him go, given Nathan Smart's escalation as a centre half.

I respect the managers decision to let him go, my only reservation to this is when we play team's with a physical edge to their game ie Hitchin  ,as it can be good to have a utility player like Dan to fight fire with fire either as a sub or a man marker in the first eleven.I would have even have tried him out in centre midfield,as he was always confident to bring the ball out of defence and often ended up being there !

I would have loved to seen that Callum Donelly man marked by Dan, that would have given the little fella something to think about !

Dan Hicks is the sort of player that needs to be at his fittest to be seen at his best, unfortunately with injuries and lack of game time I don't think we've seen him anywhere near his fittest this season.

With the current form of Nis and Nathan Smart plus Guy Hollis and Jesse Wilson in the wings he was never going to get any game time so I can totally understand why he was let go. Also you have to remember we have a budget to work to and with Callum Bunting and Romone Rose joining us I presume something had to give.

Agree.

That said, if he can get back to his fittest I think he would be a good signing for a team in the lower reaches of our division or the Ryman Premier or for a team fighting for promotion from the Central Division.

If the right manager gets hold of him, he might even be able to get further.

I wondered if Hayes and Yeading would go after him,as he isn't a lame duck and has plenty of qualities for a team trying to battle to get points to escape relegation.

I wonder where Trevor will turn up????

Let's hope Callum is as dedicated and as quality as his father was for Slough all those years ago.

Totally different position in the team but if he has the same desire as his dad, he will do well.

Talking of past players sons I hope our scouting network are keeping tabs on Mark West's and Cliff Hercules's sons, as they are starting to do well !

I know Bakes is going to laugh when he reads 'scouting network' !

And what a partner Hercules had at centre half with him, Terry Angus. Both absolutely class.

I preferred Cliff Hercules as a centre forward. Unfortunately Aylesbury United saw the best of him in that position although he still did a good job upfront for Slough.

He was on the wain as a forward [though he would still have done a good job for many a team], when Brian McDermott ingeniusly gave him a chance at centre half alongside initially Steve Bateman and then the formidable Terry Angus. A masterstroke.

Looking back at that team, Brian McDermott assembled, we really had some talented players in the mix. Probably cost Alan Thorne a fair bit, too !
