Kings Lynn away

There is a recurring theme here ie. we beat the topsides and lose to the struggling ones.

I haven't checked recently but there must be other teams that have travelled as far if not further and came away with a win.I am now hoping for a play off position at best.

Looking at the longest "mid week away league win" (bank holidays not included as mid week).

The longest trips with the away team winning I could find so far this season;

1. Basingstoke vs Kings Lynn 162 miles approx (2-1 win tue 13th Dec)

2. Weymouth vs Slough 119 miles approx (1-0 win tue 13th Sep)

3. Cinderford vs Hitchin 118 miles approx (1-0 win tue 20th Dec)

compared with our 134 miles approx trip to Kings Lynn on Tuesday. Only 1 team has won a match after having travelled further than us mid week.

If you want to do a fair comparison, how many of those traveling teams arrived 25 minutes before kick off ?

Aren't Basingstoke full time??

And yes it was traffic problems.

What was the story? Why did we arrive so late? Did we encouñter some exceptional traffic problems above and beyond what you would normally factor into a journey time?

We had built in to the journey time 40 minutes for traffic that would allow us to get there at 6.30pm, which also builds in another 15 minutes in reality as getting there at 6.45pm is normally ok, however we were caught up in numerous places... when we first got on the coach the sat nav said 6.05pm as arrival time (taking into account traffic) but some accidents put paid to that, and we eventually got to the ground at 7.10 and in changing rooms about 7.15pm.

at the end of the day journey or not we did some very uncharacteristic things first half, and I really believe the effect of the second goal had a huge impact on what then happened for the rest of the half, as I believe a number of lads lost their heads for a period of time(which unfortunately can happen in football).

However we asked them to have a reaction at half time, not to make it worse, and try to salvage something from the game, so that we can go into Saturdays game in a good frame of mind, and to be fair we did that, and on what was basically a mud bath by the end scored two very good goals.

Clearly a bad night for all, but as far as I am concerned it is gone already and the only thing I am thinking about now is preparing for Saturday.

Just as an aside, I know myself and Jon went and shook all the supporters that we could see in the bar by the hand for their support last night, which was fantastic all night, and as Mike Lightfoot said on the plus side their hotel had a 24 hour bar.....

Thanks to all those that travelled.

Kirk, we've had 8 losses so far this season and the lowest placed team has been Kings Lynn in 16th place on a comfortable 40 points.

Then it is B'stoke 15th, St Ives 12th and the other 5 are near the top so not sure where your 'recurring theme of beating the top sides and only losing to struggling teams' comes from??

What I meant was if you play a team on a Tuesday the reverse fixture is also on a Tuesday (unless it's a rearranged game)

That was only true for half of our originally fixture mid week matches.

Banbury, Stratford and Weymouth, both fixtures were originally mid week matches.

However, Leamington, Dunstable and Dorchester were originally one mid week match and one weekend match.

Whatever happened/went wrong Tuesday, I probably would have taken 3 pts from Leamington and Kings Lynn away at the start of the week given the run we've been on. There's plenty of points still up for grabs and February looks a bit kinder on paper.

Highlights from Tuesday night https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiqzM6wqVTo .

As you can see on the second goal, as an assistant referee he does not even have to be in line to see that their forward is the wrong side of our last defender, all he has to do is see the touch which he somehow missed (and said there was no touch to us).

The first at the time looked offside, but was not quite as sure, and the video is not conclusive, however looks very difficult for it to be onside from what I can see, and the reaction of all the players putting their hands up instantly gives a pretty good idea IMO.

Some great finishes on the night however from both teams.

Onwards and hopefully upwards.
