Two In, One Out - Squad Updates

Yes did feel for James as it was a poor debut and every touch went wrong. Shame as he had a decent pedigree and who knows after a few more games could have seen how good he could be but obviously his dad seems a tad over sensitive and surely he must know from experience fans are like this! Not saying it's right but it's all part of the game and you have to learn to take it on the chin.

I think fans are being incredibly judgemental on James Granger's performance considering our whole team was playing poorly at the time when he came on.

I was impressed by his willingness to get involved in the thick of the action. You couldn't say he came on and hid, like many players do when games aren't going well for their team.

Admittedly a lot of his passes went astray but judging anyone on a fleeting cameo substitute appearance is plain daft.

I could see a lot of potential in him and liked the fact he was different to the type of players we currently have in midfield.

Have to agree with you 3spirit.

I have to disagree with you 3spirit. Im not sure what you saw in the debut to make you think he had potential but on that day he was rubbish.

As for the stick he got, unfortunately he may have been a victim of circumstance on that one as i think the whole crowd, as the team were, struggling with a few poor performances. As has been said though, if he or hia father cant take some stick when he has clearly had a poor performance at best, then im not sure he is looking in the right direction. Young footballers need to have thicker skin than that and the quicker they learn that the better all round players they will be. We sit right by Mark Scotts Dad when he comes along with both managers parents as well and they both understand when things arent going right or mistakes are made, there will be stick flying about. As for Scotty's Dad, well he is normally leading the "abuse" LOL.

completing 2 out of 30 attempted passes on one of the best surfaces he will play on in dire at best. On the day we were screaming out for width and in particular a right winger and it seemed like he had been asked to play on the right as that is were he started for about 2 mins before wandering in field and getting lost.

Another young player who got a lot of stick through out certain games was Elijah Adebayo but he always backed himself and didn't let it get to him and did his best to prove doubters wrong. If you don't have a strong mentality then you will struggle, particularly if you are playing in a team pushing for title/play offs. I for one am not bothered that he left.

What I saw in James Granger was a tall, strong, confident young lad unafraid of playing in a top match in the Premier Division. He also apeared that he was willing to get stuck in and was trying to make an impact to get his new team back into the game.

I thought he had potential to play a number of positions in the team and for only being 19 years of age, he had time on his hands to improve under our very good managers.

As for his positioning,we don't know what Bakes and Unders was instructing him to do.It certainly didn't look like he was asked to be a right winger.

To make up your mind about a 19 year old who played little over ten minutes against one of the best sides in the division, Chippenham Town is ridiculous.

Don't know if it was a joint decision between James and his dad not to stay after such a brief appearance. You would hope so and it's not a case of daddy telling him what to do which won't get James far. Onto Moone's departure, I'm guessing no new strikers will be able incoming as we have 3 and brining in another decent one would just create a similar situation?

I think James Granger came through the Portsmouth academy and was then signed by Eastleigh and was also on loan at Poole Town.

Add in the fact that he is still only 19 I'd guess that it's fair to say that he has shown that he does have potential.

BTW just looked at the match details and he came on as a sub in the 61st minute.

3spirit - but to blindly say the lad had potential after watching a very poor performance at best for 10 minutes against Chippenham Town is clearly very sensible!

Either way i guess we'll never know now.

SloughFlyer, I told you why I thought he had potential, added to the fact that he was 'released' from Eastleigh FC. and Bakes and Unders had seen him play. That was enough for me to 'give the lad a chance'.

A chance for me means, at least 5 games.

The thing is, SloughFlyer, I do not rush to make judgements on anyone, as usually a rushed decision can be a wrong one.

Do you remember a centre half we had at Slough called Darren Anderson? He played League football for Aldershot. Came to Slough, his first full season he was a donkey and appeared to be awful. The next season he was our Captain and Player of the Year !

Or take a young player called Dudley Gardener, who was a young player on the fringes of our squad who looked bereft of any idea how to pass a ball and yet Alan Devonshire saw something in him and played him regularly in his first team, when he was manager at Hampton and Richmond.

What I'm saying managers make or break players. The best managers turn around 'lost' causes and in the main can get the best out of players. Obviously some fall by the wayside.

Experience tells me that judging a ten to twenty minute appearance in a Slough shirt, isn't the right way to ascertain whether the player is a good one or not.

Its a shame his off-field thinking appears to be done by his dad.Dreadful in his short cameo with us but has scored winning goals for Poole and grabbed the ball when others dithered and tucked a penalty away for Eastleigh A quick trawl round the net and his performances get lots of praise so must have something we didnt see Agree with all those who said you have to ignore comments from the sidelines if you want to progress.

Have to say I felt really sorry for James Granger.

He is only 19 and was making his debut for us as a second half substitute.

Obviously he was trying to impress on his debut but sometimes when you are so desperate to do well things just go against you.

The only thing I do agree with is that if you want to make it in the game you have to accept the critisism as well as the plaudits.

Im wondering if our intentions re Lewis Putman are still as originally stated. H&Y main page describes his loan as "initial" and there is a statement from one of their managers saying that he was a success at Slough to begin with but Slough have changed the way they play to a style that no longer suits him. ?

I think he can still do a job for us but needs to rediscover his form. I think it's likely he could stay with H&Y until the end unless we require him. Same with Dan Hicks as he's not going to get a start with 3 ahead of him so it's benefits everyone that's he gone out on loan to Harrow.

We have not said that the change of shape does not suit Puts, as actually he could play one of the roles comfortably... We said all along that we would assess it depending on how we and he was getting on, at the moment it is important for him to get games as he has had an up and down season with injuries etc, and the games will benefit him (though he did miss last night due to injury).
