Enfield Town v Burgess Hill

Weather permitting, we look forward to welcoming West Sussex side Burgess Hill to The Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, for our next Ryman Premier Division fixture. KO: 3.00pm.

 

This is the Hillians second season in the RPD, and it would be fair to say they are having a bit of a tough time. Last season they finished 21st in the table, one place above the drop zone, whilst at the moment they are 20th, with matches in hand over the basement clubs.

 

They visit us on Saturday without a win in their last seven league matches. To date they have only achieved one away league win this season, last month at Staines when they came away with a 1-2 victory. But,as we all know, there are no easy fixtures in this league, and our previous matches with the Hillians have been very close affairs, with all three matches finishing 1-0 in favour of the home team.

 

Town are on a great run of form, and having just climbed into the Ryman Premier Division play-off places, they will be looking to make their extra quality pay dividends, against stubborn opponents at Donkey Lane on Saturday.

 

Brad and the boys deserve plenty of home support and encouragement. Let's hear it for our guys as they target another three points!

Absolutely awful display. There is no point in talking about the match as we just didn't turn up. However, there is every point in talking about Scott Shulton. I didn't see the tackle but he got booked for it and rather than take the booking on the chin, he had a right old go at the ref until the ref had no choice but to give him a second yellow for dissent, I think. We played most of the second half with 10 men and didn't stand a chance.

 

Scott, you let everybody down massively today and cost us the game. Brad looked like he was was seething in the bar after the game and I can't blame him to be honest.

 

Three points thrown away Scott !

I disagree slightly with your comment Scott lost us three points !!!! did the town play any attacking football before he got sent off ??? no . How many shots on goal did we have ????  they seem to forget we play in white shirts

only a handful of players were trying, they conned the ref several times,  there number 11 in particular grinning away when he won a free kick for a so called head injury.

how many times did we give the ball away  in there half two passes and there in front of goal.

Need a striker NOW

I know Scott let himself the fans and his team mates down today but i m o he has been pure class since Brad brought him to the club.

Hopefully he wil learn from this knuckle down and push us on.

That performace was probably as bad as the first 60 mins at leatherhead.

Brad will get them up again I'm sure and i do agree a new striker would help.!!!

Totally agree BG, not only a striker but a game plan and one that the team plays

to.

Burgess Hill had one, and they played to it. It was simple but affective, keep the defensive shape and move the ball forward to their player on our last defender.

Where as we, went back to our old ways, buccaneering runs all over the field with disregard to any discipline. Without Kirby, it could have been 2 or 3 against.

 

I find that playing the ball continually up the middle in to HO is played out. It seems

to be our only tactic. This would work if he stayed up level with their last

defender with someone willing run past him. With his inability to take chances, as good a player as I think he is, perhaps it is time to try something different.

Actually, within the first ten minutes he was put through for our best chance of

the game but still contrived to miss the target.

 

With regard to the Scott Shulton fiasco, it started well before halftime and I was

surprised he wasn't booked earlier for his constant arguing with the REF. From

what I saw of the incident there was no intent shown by the REF to give him a card for his foul on an opponent, but as SS again decided to give voice to his opinions the REF,

gave him a yellow card. SS still ranted on and he left the

REF no alternative but to give him his marching orders.

 

I see he has apologised but that does not excuse his actions, especially as it could be

the 3 points lost that keeps us out of the play-offs. I do wonder if any of the

management told him at halftime to keep his thoughts to himself. It must have been

obvious to all that he was walking a tightrope!!!

Big guy, With 11 v 11, you have a chance to get back in to the game and Burgess Hill were bang average. One man down and one goal down with 40 minutes to play, we had a mountain to climb, therefore we lost the game because of Shulton's dismissal.

I thought it was flat from 1-11 today. No spark or inspiration from anyone, slight exception with Billy Crook who was busy and Kirby at the back. I don't think we would've scored yesterday if we had 12 or 13 on the pitch it was one of those days against an opponent who have beaten us 3 out of 4 times we have met, each time 1-0, bogey and team spring to mind.

I agree SS Sending Off was ridiculous and I hope he seeks to make amends with gut busting performances for the remainder of the season.

We move on it's 2 defeats in 17 league games , let's start another winning run with a win at a very difficult Met Police game on a Tuesday night. Keep the faith.

First half we were rubbish, as we have been in too many games recently. We appear to have become ' a second half side ' and as Shulton got sent off so early in the second half, IMO, we never had a chance of getting back into the game. All about opinions.

Agree with 4wembley finals on over reliance on individual buccaneering runs and HO. We need to play more combinations in the final third. We have the ability but tend to be over playing with Tyler, mickey, Dernell and bobby driving from one tackle into another rather than drawing players then releasing the ball. It looks exciting and gets the crowd going but doesn't help the continuity of play.

I agree with much of what's been said - poor day  all round yesterday - but Scott's been big enough to apologise for letting everyone down yesterday and I think we should accept that. His performances for the club this season surely warrant that and I hope he'll have leaned not to argue with the referee in future. Looked to me that he was booked twice for dissent, rather than for the original foul, and players have to learn not to argue with the referee as it rarely ends well. Ironically, I'm pretty sure Scott's immediate analysis was right - it was never a foul in my opinion!

 

Referee was poor - allowed himself to be influenced too much by the players rather than simply applying the laws of the game. Not going over to check on the wellbeing of Harry, who was clearly injured, just because he'd (incorrectly) not given the foul was petulant and wrong. As for the 1 minute injury time - really? The incident with Scott took longer than that and what about the 5 or 6 second half substitutions? Agree we were unlikely to score anyway but that doesn't make him any more correct!
