Swifty
So Villa go through to play Hampton & Richmond Borough away in the semis. On the balance of play, they probably deserved it in all fairness, and they were a bit unlucky to go in level at half time, but put that down to our stickability. The second half ebbed and flowed but there was just the one goal, to our visitors. After a goalless first half hour, we had all five goals within 19 minutes. Jesse Atiase hit a low hard shot home from the edge of the box in the 31st minute, but three minutes later we equalised when it didn't look likely, as Kam got through to the Villa box but fell over, then got up quick enough to retain the ball, round the keeper and slot the ball home. Three minutes later a long through ball sliced through our defence and Tom Neale pounced for 2-1, but Weighty made it 2-2 with a meaty header from a corner in the 44th. When Jack Buckle scored from the spot in the 50th minute there was a sense we'd get back up and in it again, but to no avail. It was actually the best we'd played for some while, and it was a solid display, with the whole team playing for each other and some players switching positions to try different angles and methods, but we still lacked that cutting edge. In comparison, Villa saw our weakness in defence and probed it to good effect. Best of luck with your upcoming op, Fish. Hope to see you back in a tangerine and white shirt as soon as possible. ashford follower
yes swifty I agree on balance of play they just deserved it , thought we played a lot better a far more team performance ,the pitch seemed very hard which makes it difficult but we had spells of brilliant passing football against a team who were definitely up for it never mind onto sat which on balance will be the hardest game of the season smashing Farnborough last night 5-0 because it was a cold night I went walkabout last night the atmosphere was on a low last night, might be we were outnumbered or it was freezing we need to get behind them sat, does any one know how long we will miss fish ? Swifty
Unfortunately, Fish could be out for a few weeks. Shame, as he's been as good again this season as always.
