v Hayes & Yeading

LOL 3spirit, 'promotion chasing team' not the same team I was watching. From what I saw all they did for most of the time was hoof the ball high & long which was certainly more effective than the way we were playing (badly) on a very poor pitch. There were no excuses made for the first half performance as Sean Fraser said in his comments after the game.

A completely differant performance by everyone second half, more in line with what we normally watch most weeks.

3 points, game won.

As for Chesham, differant game, differant day.

Makes you wonder why Gavin James wasn't playing first half.

I agree with you that we seem to struggle against teams from the lower reaches of the league, something we must rectify if we want promotion.

As you should know Kirk, Gavin James has been out for quite sometime with an injury.

In such circumstances it's sometimes common sense to do things gradually rather than chuck players in the deep end and risk further injury.

Surely the most important aspect of any game is to win no matter how it's achieved? Yes we can talk all night about the first half but what does it really matter as we won, who cares if we play a first half like that every game and win!!!

I know that, Glen STFC but what get's on my nerves is that this a fans forum, where fan's are supposed to be allowed to share their opinions on how they viewed their team's matches etc, ......... and yet when we do give an honest view, people get the ar*e ache because you don't fall for all the spin and sugar coating that's been put on the result.

The story of the game is always different to just the result.

As for the analogy of our team's performance, as a decorator I liken it to putting lining paper on a wall thats not had the cracks filled properly. You know you can get a away with it short term but it won't be long before all the cracks will start coming through again !

Actually 3spirit what is happening is that the rest of us have acknowledged that we were rubbish first half and moved on to praise the comeback. You on the other hand prefer to go round in circles complaining. Guess you were short of things to complain about in the first few months so you have to go overboard now?

Great comeback, thought we were superb second half. To be honest I was surprised we took off Moone at half time but it certainly paid off and Gav looks like he hasn't been away. Two great finishes from our defenders too. We do need to stop putting pressure on ourselves to do it but these are games that we would certainly have lost in previous seasons.

Yes we do struggle against the lower teams, that's because generally they shut up shop and defend in numbers whereas the better teams try to play the ball and as a result create space for us to play. However we have a squad that never gives up and that is certainly beneficial in a season where we want to be looking up rather than down.

Onto Chesham and a ridiculously busy January with some very tough games.

3spirit - I hope that the players from the first half have learnt from the way they played and the mistakes / lack of performance they made and can make sure that these things dont happen again. Even the greatest teams in the world have bad games / halves of football and the important thing is they learn from it and make themselves better along the way.

Much like you, a few of the games we have had in the past month have given cause for concern, however, we are now in a position too go top of the league and plenty of points clear of the rest. We all know the path to the title/promotion/playoffs wont be easy, there will be games when we play superbly against the top teams and badly against the bottom teams, the reason i said about the result is the 3 points are the same.

On the topic of the forum, ive read back through the posts and i dont think anyone has "got at you" for your opinion, but much like you have yours and i have mine, they have theirs, the best thing about it for me, is we are in a position of being critical of a top end side and players in a really good team with a really good shout of winning the league. Id much rather be like that than last season or the season before LOL.

On that video Sean's goal looks an absolute belter! Hopefully he can show his friends and family that and not say it was deflected! :)

3Spirit, I've been on rough end of having a view that is valid in your opinion and ridiculed by others, so you have my sympathy mate! Although I do have to say that I am not in full agreement with you. Truth of matter is, you are right that there will be some cause for concern about the poor display initially! However that is outweighed by the lads finding a way back to win... the managers will know it wasn't good enough and learn from it I've no doubt.

Roll on Chesham

On this forum every one is free to express their opinions (subject of course to reasonable boundaries). Given this freedom of expression there will be differing opinions. Those people who disagree with others opinions are not getting the a**e as has been muted but merely placing there own opinions on the table. If they do so in an abusive manner I agree that that is unacceptable but to merely disagree should not bring the sort of approbation  that has been posted on this forum on a number of occasions.

I think in some cases there is almost an expectation that the wheels are going to come off at some point, and looking for the early signs of it starting to happen. And the last ten minutes against Kettering and the first half against Hayes (despite not losing us any points) do set off alarm bells.

It probably stems from the last two seasons when we have looked like a top half club for two thirds of the season to then collapse in the final third. (For two seasons in a row we have only picked up 12 points from our last 15 league matches.)

There may well have been very good reasons for why that happened, and why it won't happen this season, but for some with reasonable memories I think it's a fair concern.

I totally agree that the comeback in the second half was superb. Gavin James had his best game in a Slough shirt.

My point was about our first half effort and that we cannot afford to start like that against Chesham, who are far superior in quality to what Hayes and Yeading currently offer.

The fact that people misconstrue what I write as negative posts, I can't do anything about. My posts are never intending to be negative. I just write it as I see it.

I know, that the forum only works, when fans respond to posts, whether fans agree or disagree doesn't matter.

By the way, what a bummer not having Guy Hollis for the Chesham match. That is a huge blow.
