MK Dons - b&b cup

For me MK Dons summed up the U21/U18 set up, nice passing around, no hoofing the ball, but importantly (if you want a win) NO OOMPH and no threat. We were physically stronger, still passed the ball well, BUT looked like scoring almost every time we attacked. Connor Furlong looked good, but too many didn't seem to care, especially at 0-2. MOM for them was their goalkeeper Burns and they are lucky they weren't spanked 6 or 7.

Slightly disappointed they couldn't give us the respect to put out a stronger side and take the competition more seriously. Still the B&B is back in the hands of the "non league" fraternity where it traditionally belongs, so good riddance.

Now for Maidenhead!!

Not sure you will find many if any football league sides who take their county cup very seriously. Why would they with little financial reward compared to the league and other cups. Even we made 6 changes from Kettering partly due to priorities elsewhere in league

Great performance where we taught the young MK side a harsh lesson.

Great to have Gavin James back and he looked fired up and full of energy. Huge boost to have him back

I think Reading have been exempt from this competition for some time now, I guess Wycombe are now the same.  Would have thought that MK Dons would be as well unless they decided to stay in it. Its a personal choice for the pro teams to enter as far as I know.

My view on this is why not take the competition a little seriously with a game against us for example??

They are coming to an excellent ground, on a fantastic surface, against a very good side, they have well over 30 pros, and lots of those don't get to play lots....

There will have been 5 or 6 that have been on the bench recently, and the new manager not seen them other than in training, instead of giving those lads two days off why not play them and get an idea of where they are??

I mean MK Dons only beat a side at our level 3-1 at home in the FA Cup with their full first time, so why do they think their youngsters can get anything from us??

I can understand why Wycombe pay not to enter as they literally only have their first team squad, however Reading have about 50 players throughout the age groups, and so many don't get any senior or competitive football!!! Again why not enter it and put out the u23s surely it is a good experience for them.

Gone are the days where non league players are no good and will just kick players etc....

People always said about fitness and the pro teams will be much stronger as the game goes on, well that is in the past also, as most lads these days at our level take the game very seriously, and are usually ridiculously fit....

In terms of the game, someone has said it already, men against boys unforunatley, and on another night we could have easily had 6 or 7.... from our point of view though it was good, as no injuries, a clean sheet and a decent crowd.

You can understand why the professional teams like Reading and Wycombe drop out when the fine to do do is about £350, pennies to them. If they had to host one of the matches it would cost them a lot of money and a guarenteed loss of money.

I think it is a good thing for the top clubs to send their youth players into these cup but only as long as they take it seriously! I'm sure Elijah Adebayo has learnt a few things in his time with us playing with and against experienced and intelligent defenders who know how to get away with sneaky fouls. The only way to get better at sport other than consistent training is to compete with someone of equal or better ability or experience.

For our team last night was a great opportunity for those coming back from injury and those with little playing time to get 90 mins again with the main squad at Arbour Park.

The Semi finals are now Conf South vs South Prem.
