Uncle T
Why was the goal keeper sent off? Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned unless: The offence is holding, pulling or pushing or The offending player does not attempt to play the ball or there is no possibility for the player making the challenge to play the ball or The offence is one which is punishable by a red card wherever it occurs on the field of play (e.g. serious foul play, violent conduct etc.)

Karen Browne
According to referee's report received this morning the match official was correct with his decision "LATE IN THE GAME JACK METCALFE OF WGC TOOK DOWN THE FORWARD FOR SUN SPORTS WITHOUT GOING FOR THE BALL DENIES A GOAL SCORING CHANCE I SENT HIM OFF"
Uncle T
The referee gave a penalty and he says it was a goal scoring opportunity, so a caution should have been issued as per the laws of the game.
Karen Browne
According to his decision his opinion was the goalkeeper made no attempt to play the ball and therefore it is a red card offence
Catdog Rovers
Would it incur a 3 match ban then? Because that'd be extremely harsh for that.

Munchkin
deliberate fouls will still incur a red card. Those include holding, pulling or pushing, not playing the ball, serious foul play, violent conduct or deliberate handball in order to deny a goalscoring opportunity.
