Neil/Jon are you able to disclose any further information on th potential strikers you were speaking with, obviously it seems neither will be involved tomorrow night but maybe Saturday?

Nothing to report at this stage Glen.... we have another 7 day approach that has been put in today, and can talk to on Sunday.

Obviously wont be going into names for those that we might not be successful with.

Can I ask a quick question about a 7 day approach.  Does that mean you have 7 days from the time you put in your approach to speak to the player and get the deal done which means the player we asked about decided against joining.  Or does it mean the current club has 7 days to think about if they want to let their player talk to us in which case the player we are after could still join?

The FA Seven Day Approach Rule...

(A) You want to speak to or approach a player signed with another club about signing for you.

  • A manager wishing to speak to a player about joining their team, when the player is already registered with another team, MUST ask their club secretary to write to the secretary of the players current club given seven days’ formal written notice of their intention to speak to the player.
  • This written notice must be sent by special delivery or recorded post or a written acknowledgment otherwise obtained from the secretary or chairman of the player’s current club (fax or e-mails may be used provided a receipt of acknowledgement is also obtained).
  • Once this has been done, the player can be spoken to on or after the eighth day and the player must be registered on or before the 21st day.
  • If the player declines your offer to leave their current team and join your team then you cannot approach them again in the same season (the FA season is from 1st July to 31st May).
  • You can only approach one player in the same team at any one time.

Once the 7-day Approach Rule has been followed, the club / player can then complete a league transfer form.

Bakes or Unders, does that mean that our first 7 day approach for a striker didn't work out?

We spoke with the player in question out of courtesy, but this is not going forward.

What division does the new 7 day approach player, play in, Neil?

It's not fair if you don't give us fans some clues !

Not going in to who it might or might not have been, it is a process as a football manager that you talk to lots of players.

We put in an approach, and by the time the 7 days had ended we had set our sights on another option, however at the same time having spoken to the player it was not the right time for him to leave his club either, so was not right for either party.

2-0 win, Hollis header and Dobson free kick

Our first league clean sheet in a while which is great and a good 3 points as well. that is now 10 clean sheets in 20 league matches this season.

Merthyr also dropped points as they lost to Basingstoke. We move into 2nd by 3 points

A good professional performance tonight from the whole side. Stuck to our task well and unlike Hitchin or Kings Langley we didnt resort to kicking a long high ball into Elijah, we got the ball down and continued to play the ball around.

Banbury came to stick 10 players behind the ball and apart from a couple of counter attacks didnt really present too much of a threat. 11 players in their own box to defend a corner in the first 5 minutes tells the whole story.

Onwards to Saturday and on another positive, Gavin James looked fairly fit kicking the ball around with the subs before the game and at half time. Hopefully he wont be too long too be fit.

It's all about opinions but I thought Banbury played a very good passing game and for me always looked threatening on the break whether it was out wide or down the middle and only a bit of poor finishing and some good defending from us prevented them from scoring.

Excellent win and a very entertaining night's football against a good Banbury team that like to play a passing game.

Relatively even first half with chances at a premium.

Second half we were the better team but it was all about getting the first goal and thankfully a ball in the box from Sean Fraser and an excellent header from Guy Hollis gave us a crucial lead.

From then on we were on the front foot and scored the vital second from a James Dobson free kick to seal the 3 points.

Difficult to name a MOTM because every player their part in a good team performance.
