Trophy vs Wingate and Finchley

Another £4,000 up for grabs to the winner of this tie.

W&F have one of the lowest attendances in the Ryman Premier so probably won't be that many away supporters but hopefully we will have another strong home support for this game.

They are in good form at the moment and with players like Shane Gore in goal and Steve Wales they have plenty of experience and quality so will be a tough match but with our home form we should remain confident.

Lets just hope we can get the first goal and not need to come from behind again.

Apologies the following preview was in my draft emails, was sure I had sent it to the web team!

After our excellent win at Stratford on Tuesday we look forward to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy this weekend and the visit of Wingate & Finchley.

We have not had an easy route so far in this competition, having already overcome Ryman Premier leaders Bognor as well as Merthyr who we know are one of the best sides around at Step 3. Our visitors Wingate are in touching distance of the play-offs in the Ryman Premier and on a good run of form currently so we are expecting another closely fought game.

The squad will be stretched on Saturday with Mark Nisbet, Simon Dunn and James Dobson missing through suspension and Gavin James, Lee Barney and Dan Hicks still out injured.

We have drafted in Adam New who did well in the league cup game on Wednesday night and he will complete a 16 man squad

Squad: Mark Scott, Jamie Jackson, Sean Fraser, Paul Stonehouse, Guy Hollis, Nathan Smart, Josh Jackman, Adam New, Lee Togwell, Nathan Smart, Adrian Sear, Warren Harris, Lewis Putman, Gurkan Gokmen, Charlie Moone, Elijah Adebayo.

I could be wrong but I think that because Kings Lynn won their FA Trophy match today our match against them (away) on 10th December which would mean a Tuesday night trip to Kings Lynn later in the season.

If it is the case would the club consider trying to fill that weekend with another of our fixtures which need to be re-arranged.

Certainly not our best performance today. Really missed the height of nis at the back and Dobbo in attack and the energy of dunny in midfield. Thought guy and togs were the only real standout performances with puts trying his best and having some good moments interspersed with some poor decision making. Rest of the squad unfortunately not at their best and we certainly looked lacking at the back with the slightly makeshift defence.

One thing that grated on me today was the criticism of Elijah from numerous sections of the support. Whilst it wasn't his best game for us, he tried his hardest to impact the game and we did not offer him the support required for him to influence the game to his full potential. We are talking about an 18 year old who is playing in a senior team for the first time. He was no poorer than a number of our other players on the day and the level of abuse he was getting was to my mind unacceptable, especially given his efforts for us so far.

I really don't think we should be too harsh on the team for today's defeat because when all is said and done we were missing a couple of really influential players from our starting 11 today.

W & F did have some tough and experienced players and put in an OK performance but the bottom line is they really didn't have to do anything special to win the game because IMO in a lot of ways we were the architects of our own downfall.

We gave away some really soft goals and I think we really missed the presence and influence of Mark Nisbet at the back.

In central midfield passes went astray too often and for me the loss of Simon Dunn was a big factor.

Up front Elijah and Moonie didn't get a lot of luck and were well shackled by the W & F defence. I think we were crying out to change something up front and hopefully the new striker will give us that option.

Lewis Putman, especially for his second half performance, was my MOTM.

The big plus is that we can now concentrate almost 100% on the league and we only have a couple of days to put things right against Banbury.

Certainly agree with you Radders in that we have to remember that Elijah is 18 and pretty raw when it comes to playing men's football.

Because of his height we do tend to play the ball in air to him a lot and TBH winning the ball in the air is not his forte.

As said I think we missed Simon Dunn's all round play and creativity to give our forwards the type of balls that they could feed off.

Reading Rebel Yes I agree the lads have summed it up spot on An already weakened team played poorly for most of the game and an unexceptional W&F deserved their win.Now we can concentrate on the league We will need to be much improved on Tuesday Banbury have lost their last two league games without scoring but their away record is better than their home one and they have one of the best defences.

Just a shame after the hard work the lads put in to beat Merthyr over two games to get ìn this round and then to go out with a wimper.

Must say the power driver of a shot from Togs was going in from my angle to make it 2-2 then the game might of changes.

At 18 Elijah is just starting out and playing against experienced defenders who have all the tricks to put him in there pockets.

There are a lot of other skills that he will learn but this will be over time so give him some slack.

When Charlie Mpi came back to us he was a totally different player as he had learned his trade over the years.

Very committed and had the hunger and drive.
