littlehampton
This evening Town return to cup action when they make the relatively short journey over to Edgware, to face Sky Bet League Two side Barnet, in the Middlesex Senior Cup 2nd Round, at The Hive. KO 8.00pm. It's quite a little while since we played Barnet in any competition, and it is a great chance for Town supporters to see their new ground, and renew past friendships / rivalry, from the good old Underhill days. Should be a lively atmosphere. Will be very interesting to see what team we field for this match. Enjoy the match, and please post your thoughts on the game, our performance, and the result. The Crowing Cockerel
To be honest, Nathan was practically standing next to the taker by the time the ball was struck for the decisive save, but who cares when we're beating the B*£$@t! Beardsleyesque
We looked tired at the end against the full time barnet boys but kept going and Nigel and bobby helped at the end. Bobby was particularly lively when he came on late in the game. Young barnet team but at least 7 players that have played for the first team in league 2. Kei, fonguck, amazalur, Cesay, shomotun, mckenzie Lyle, Nichols. We played well at times in and out of possession at other times looked a bit ragged. Great to get another win though. vauxhallman
Think Kier deserves a special mention showing a lot of guts to step up and take the 6th pen after the unfortunate mistake at langley. True Towner.?⚽COYT
littlehampton
Congratulations and very well done to Brad and the boys on holding their nerve and winning this match. Coming so soon after a physical, energy-sapping game at Havant, our guys did the club proud, to last the course against Barnet's young professionals, put away our penalties, and progress to a quarter final home tie against Hendon.Whilst this competition is not our highest priority, it is always good to chalk up a win against Barnet, and it would be nice to go all the way and win some silverware, come the end of the season. AnfieldTowner
I completely agree, littlehampton. It was actually a thoroughly entertaining evening with some very good performances. Special mention for Scott Shulton who kept a clean sheet during his 35 mins in goal - well done for stepping up when you were needed, Scott. Not sure the hands were used too often but Pep Guardiola must be interested after that sweeper keeper performance! The game had pretty much everything on what it has to be said was a very impressive playing surface. Good to see Towners outnumber the home support - then again, their first team is playing tonight so Barnet clearly saw it as a second string match. Enfield United
Put all rivalry with Barnet to one side as it doesn't really exist in the real world. It's like a Spurs v Orient scenario, they are 3 divisions above and almost won with their full time youngsters. Nonetheless the game was a very even affair as you'd get and the result reflected that accurately, it was an example of good fair play, except for their No5 , where great energy was used and a real cup tie was played out, both sides wanting to win badly, Barnet because it gave their reserves genuine adult first team competitive football and ourselves as this is an important county commitment. End to end, 6 goals, penalties, goalkeeping drama and crisis and the usual great camaraderie amongst our supporters who expressed good humour, chat and spirit throughout the night. Additionally not a swear word in sight. Victory for football and we went through, perfect.
lovely stuff
Not like Spurs v Orient at all ..More like Celtic v Rangers when Rangers found themselves 3 leagues below their old rivals (and if their first team played celtic reserves in a minor cup game)..In that situation it would mean much more to Rangers because of the hardship they have suffered and because of a chance to put one over their old great rivals. Yes, it was Barnets reserves but 7-8 of those players have played for them in the football league and they are all professionals who no doubt are earning more than our players. Ps..That is the most goals we have scored away at Barnet since our 7-0 win their in the FA cup in the 80's. (Can't remember Orient ever doing that to Spurs in the past. ).
