Can someone tell me what the usual points tally is in the Southern Prem to be safe from relegation. I know its usually about 40 points in the Premiership and 50 in the Championship.

With Slough Town now on 42 Points safety must be close which is normally every managers first target for the season.  Are Slough now safe ?.

I was about to say the same thing.  Anyone at that game would have seen the brilliant celebrations with almost every player joining in with the fans behind the goal, led by our loan striker who picked up a booking for his efforts.  It's very obvious that this team cares for the club, and yes it's easy to say that when the team are winning but coming back from losing positions in 3 of our last 4 games shows that this team does not give up.

A much improved second half last night saw us dominate the match and get the deserved goals, but the contribution of Guy Hollis cannot be understated as he broke up a few key attacks for Stratford when they did create something that looked dangerous.

Well done to the team on a great comeback once again.

Hitchin have dropped 26 points this season!!

Big win and totally dominant second half.... was not going to respond to a few comments about the Kings Langley game, but ends up being a really big point in the end, having backed it up with the win last night.

As proved last night with the Cinderford v Chippenham game you are not going to get it all your own way in this league, and more often than not we are going to have to battle to win, but I am sorry anyone questioning players desire or the want to win (the league) are very wide of the mark, all the lads really care (including Elijah) as proved last night.

Funnily enough we had a good conversation with Tom Williams after the game on Saturday who at this stage can still be quite objective as he does not know all the lads etc and has not seen us at the top of our game yet, and he was still really complimentary about our performance Saturday (and someone extremely well qualified to give an opinion on a game of football) even at 2-0 down which was totally unjust, he said the lads did not panic and kept going trying to pass the ball, and we showed great character in adversity to get something from a game that should have been gone.

Just to empasise how far we have come this season :

we have now played 27 competitive games, we have won 19, drawn 4 and lost 4, that is just over a 70 per cent win ratio.

So all I ask is when things don't quite go our way in games as they will do so this season (especially at times at home when you as fans really can be a twelfth man), instead of getting on the lads backs or looking at reasons why things did not happen show how together the club is and really get behind the lads.... A positive can provide a positive, whereas the same can be said of a negative.

Bit like our travelling fans did last night, who by the way were excellent.... didn't hear anything negative last night and continued to back the lads, even though at 73 minutes we were still behind.

This is a long tough and relentless season, just remember that the lads we have our all semi pro players, but are proud to wear the shirt and will give everything they have for us to be successful for the club....

COYR

Good win away from home,Neil. Every Slough fan will be delighted,me included.

As I was the one that stirred the pot, a bit, on the Kings Langley thread, I thought I'd respond to your post here. I am not one for shouting and bawling at players at any game, in fact I go the opposite way and encourage players and cheer them on at matches. I cannot hold the tongues of those around me,though.

I take on board your point about getting behind our favoured team at matches.

What I don't agree with you on, and I've disagreed with loads of others on this very subject, is the use of a forum to only praise and make points that that the management and club deem to fit in with their agenda.

That is a dictatorship, not a forum.

Nobody wants to deliberately rile anyone connected with the team or club [except for maybe Hotspur!], so I don't see any problem when people share honest opinion on here, as long as they adhere to the forum rules.

You don't have to take any notice of that fan's opinion or respond to it unless you wish to.

As for Tom Williams, you obviously have faith in him to do the job as coach which is fair enough.I have no qualms about that or any of your staff.

My observation to Jon was that because you and him are both vocal managers/come coaches, and that you now have a new recruit in the dug out[who's very vocal] , it would be advisable to sort out who shouts the tactics/ words of encouragement at matches, as on Saturday, a lot of stuff seemed to be getting mixed up and players won't know whether they're coming or going, if they hear loads of instruction coming from the dugout.

The last manager we had was relatively quiet in the dugout and let his coach do the instructions, and we've all seen the loud manic manager ie Martin O'Neil, Barry Fry, Danny Cowley, Tony Choules etc. but least it was clear who was giving the instructions.

Perhaps it's just the modern game, as the dugout has grown, in the professional ranks, which non-league teams follow and so some non-league benches have nearly as many coaches as they have supporters ! ha ha!

Excited to see who the new forward recruit will be.

Kettering lost at home 1-2 to Redditch.

No one like to see any manager lose his job but surely Marcus Law's time is now up.

Not necessarily, it depends what the club wants to achieve this season.

Given that it is only Kettering's second season in this division [which we know is never a good omen] and that they are having problems with their Burton Latimer ground share and with the possibiity of a new stadium site inconclusive, I would think a current mid table position isn't as bad as some would think.

Why rush to sack the manager?

Stuart the lads know exactly what information is coming from the side lines and if myself or Jon say something it is expected, and that has not changed just because Tom has joined the team.... There is no conflicting information coming out, as if there was we would tell whoever it was... you will always get encouragement from the side lines, and that comes from players and staff alike.

And Stuart you know I don't have a problem with you putting your opinions over, however I am allowed mine also ;-) still does not stop me wanting harmony and people singing from the same hymn sheets ;)

Ketterings problem is their appalling home record and the adverse effect that has had on their revenue stream From nearly always getting 500+ attendances last night was 340ish and they have a number of players who dont come cheap Marcus Law managed them without success several years ago so he was a surprise choice but as the old adage says Dogs return to their vomit. Im sure if he were just the manager he would be long gone but there was an extensive discussion recently about the contribution his company makes to the club so maybe its not that easy. Both Law and their exiled chairman stated that promotion was the aim this season.

Longshot and others - over the last couple of seasons we have used 45 points as the safe mark, so 1 more win and we should be good LOL.

RR - 100% agree on the striking options. As we play 2 up front (which i think is excellent) i have always believed we sgould be carrying 4 recognised strikers in the squad. We have excellent "others" in the form of Harris and Putman to fill in, and these are good options but, like you, the loss of Moone, Barney and James could well hit us really hard.

HOWEVER

Looks like our bosses have identified this as a problem and hopefully if we can extend Elijah for another month and sign the new guy on the 7 day approach, all of a sudden we have excellent options throughout again.

Looking forward to the player news soon.

I am sure we are safe from relegation(!). The bad luck with injuries including of course Harrison Gilkes' during the pre-season has been causing undoubted problems but Bakes and Unders have dealt  with and continue to deal with that situation. At present we are well clear of the sides in 6th,7th and 8th places and this has so far been a brilliant season. I believe this will continue to be the case. As stated by others in this thread the players' response to the winning goal last night was intensely joyous. I must admit that having a bit of a dodgy leg and slight balance problems the oncoming stampede startled me a little so I moved out of the way! A great performance and great vociferous support.

Neil I would like to live in peace and harmony and that life would be like a 'feel good musical'  ha ha ha ! but I know it 'ain't going to happen !

I like to hear from you and Jon on this forum [as many fans do, I know a couple of fans that don't but you can't please everyone].

However, you have to realise that this is the place for fans to share their opinions and their frustrations, with how they view the games. We can't always write what you want to read. You have the right to reply, as anyone else has.Whether you choose to address our posts on each thread topic, is entirely up to you.

From my perspective, I value your feedback, even if it's not to my liking.

On the dugout situation, I've said what I wanted to say. It's up to you what you take from it.

In general, this forum is one of best non-league ones around, regardless of the occasional negative feedback it receives.

All fans up and down the land are happy when their team is winning but wouldn't it be a boring forum, if we kept winning ! ha ha ha!

Kettering are historically a big name in non league football and I'm sure, reading their forum etc they have ambitions this season to at least make the play-offs.

It is tricky to say a definite number of points will keep you safe in this league. Over the last 6/7 seasons there have Ben different numbers of teams and games played in the league so getting an average for when 46 games played is tricky but if you get more than 1 point per game then you should be fine. So more than 46 would almost guarantee safety, so there is a very good chance we will be safe by at least Christmas.

Thanks for that info, IrishAdrian, I didn't know any of that.

Doesn't sound a good idea when managers get mixed up with the money side or when chairmen or those with financial clout, get involved with the actual football side of things but can understand how it happens.

Last night was one of the classic examples of the old adage about the ' real season starting in November if you want to win anything' . Getting results early season on sunny days on nice pitches is fine but on cold foggy nights far away on tough pitches can you get a result. How many of our rivals saw the half- time score and thought about that.? Great statement from the team to reverse it.
