Vs Kings Langley

Read it again Rebel1965.

The offence is when the player 'interferes' so if he is in an offside position when the ball is played he is not deemed to be actually of side until he tackles or touches the ball. That is the point of the infringement. Even if that happens to be back in his own half.

The player was offside in the opponents half and went back to get the ball

That maybe what the laws say but it is patently nonsense. You are offside when the ball is played. To be offside you must be in the opponents half. That is where the offence occurs regardless of whethee you are only deemed to interfere in your own half.

The constant fiddling with the laws leaves officials open to ridicule.

Agree that this change of rule is a total nonsense.

In yesterday's game the team awarded the offside free kick gained an advantage. With this rule change there could be examples where the team awarded the offside free kick could be dis-advantaged by having to play the free kick deep in their own half when the offence has actually occured near the half way line.

Having just listened to the Unders interview after yesterday's game, I agree with him that we need to get a result at Stratford and it was 2 points dropped yesterday. He also makes a fair point that it isn't easy to breakdown sides who are intent on slowing down our play with negative  gamesmanship and coping with an inept ref.

What I don't agree with him about, though, was that he was largely happy with how our team performed.

I thought it was our worst game this season [of the games I've seen].

I don't want to go over the top with the criticism, as we've been spoilt with great team performances this season so far and one game doesn't mean a thing.

To be fair, I never thought Kings Langley would be a pushover and so they proved.

It is good Charlie Moone is starting to show some form but it has to be said Elijah Adebayo was struggling to have any effect on the game and yesterday he should have been subbed. I know that's being hard, with an I8 year old  learning his game but I don't believe we will win anything come the end of the season, if we don't remove players who are not having a successful game. He certainly wasn't the only one that needed to make way.

From the match I watched yesterday, I saw it clear that three substitutions needed to be made early to invigorate our team 's play and change what was being offered to the Slough faithful.

Thankfully, Nathan Webb and Warren Harris did the trick but it was still two points dropped IMO.

We will need to be sharper at Stratford.

Think a few too many people thought this was a turn up and take the points game. If you look at KLs record they have only lost 2 in the league road this year . That's as good as us and any top of the table side.

In some ways this game disappointed me more than even the losses we have had. If we had played the percentages in the first half we would have been 2 or 3 up at half time. Too many wrong decisions by individuals all went the same way and missed easy passes in favour of the glory option. That's fine when you are 3 up but ANY team has to be beaten first then you can shoot for the moon. In the end a great comeback but we should not have been there.

We need to be more patient against hard working sides. Top teams dont steam-roller everyone in the first 15 mins. Sometimes the goals don't come easy and you have to,graft and graft and wait for your chance to show your skill but it will come.

Still have not seen anyone , apart from Merthyr, who really worry me in this division. If we can find that ruthless streak when it's not going our way to go along with our passing game when it is, we can still challenge for the top.

A rather confusing day when for about an hour I was certain we would eventually win by three or four..... then felt like walking out when we went 2-0 down, but persevered and was thoroughly entertained by our two late goals (especially when our second came in about the 7th minute of added time due to their constant time wasting antics - that's karma!!)

I could ponder whether it was a point gained or two lost for a week and probably still not come to a satisfactory conclusion.

There is no doubt though that we are having a bit of a wobble in the league (8 points from our last six matches), and I think it is crucial that we as fans get behind the lads and help them through it.

At the beginning of the season I think we would all have been delighted if we were in the top 5, and probably think it a big bonus if we made it to the First Round of the FA Trophy..... and we seem to be on course for both at present.

Let's forget yesterday and move on to thinking about Stratford on Tuesday.

The ref was one of the worst we've had this season, but to clear up the offside indirect free kick in our own half...

a player CAN commit an offside OFFENCE in their own half if they go back into their own half from an offside position

With the exception of offences in the goal area, throughout the Laws every free kick is awarded from the place where the offence occurs so it is logical that this should also apply to offside.

This was cut and pasted from the Laws section on the FA website.

The offside laws changed slightly before this season so that the ref can give the free kick from where the infringement occurred.

So the law is now ... if our player was offside and came back to touch the ball, the free kick is where he touched the ball/interfered even if it was in his own half.

Another change of law is an injured player no longer has to leave the pitch if a yellow card is shown to the offender, as happened on Tuesday night.

Even so... the ref had a very poor game

The offside (when the ball was touched) was still inside the KL half as shown by the linesman indicating the offside at least 5 yards inside their half !!!

Linesman only put his flag up when the ball is touched and in moves to the furthest point forward of the offside (where the play was when the ball was kicked or where they touched it)

Add the fact the referee told them to put the ball back inside their own half in line with the Lino.

I thought it was a typical sort of game that we will see a lot more of whilst we are at top end of the league... sides will come and frustrate and sit back, don't think the 'this lot are a pushover' comments before game helps! Each side in this league have the ability to frustrate and KL did.

I thought the subs were actually very good changes and made a big impact.

Definite point Gained in the end but even more so if we get a win Tuesday...

Apologies for the double reply... seemed to be playing up.

Has something changed with this forum, as for the last three or four weeks, the layout and the functioning of the site has been a problem to my computer and I know of, at least, three other fans who have said the same, and Sloughboy looks like he is another one?

Navigation around the forum has been very slow for the last couple of day's, not sure if it was the forum or my computer.

Seems to be a lot quicker now.

Again, as has been said, we showed some great character to come back from 2-0 down.

KL came with the sole objective to frustrate and scored two unbelievable goals.

The fact that IMO we were nowhere near our best is probably more down to the spoiling tactics from KL, not too dis-similar to the Dorchester and Cambridge games where survival was their ultimate aim.

The substitutions and our dogged determination to get something from the game were the key for me in gaining a well deserved point.
