Vs Kings Langley

This is our 10th home game of the season, meaning that if you have attended every home league game this season any early bird season tickets would have paid for themselves and any other home league match will essentially be free.

This is a game we really should be winning if we are going to challenge for play offs this season. Kings Langley were one of the poorest teams we have played so far this season and we gifted them two goals last time to make it hard for ourselves. Playing this time on a perfectly smooth surface our quality should really shine through and allow us to dominate the game. At the moment they don't have a manager(s) (though this might change by Saturday) and have been in bad league form recently.

I think you're doing KL a bit of a dis-service SRJ.

Their form in the league is a bit unpredictable but their results suggest that on their day they can beat or match some of the better teams in our division.

Agree Reading Rebel, it was only ours and theirs third game of the season when we played them, so no room to disregard them. On that day, I thought they played some good fotball and were a threat going forwards, with their strikers particularly useful [Duku and Toomey]. They have also also have a number of decent experienced players in their squad ie David Hutton, Dean Hitchcock, Emmanuel Folarin, Kyle Anthony and  recently they have signed exciting teenage prospect Jerry Amoo from Hemel Hempstead, who scored on his debut at Enfield in the trophy.

I believe their new caretaker manager has won three out of four games in charge,so that doesn't suggest they will be a pushover, in fact, far from it and I think they will be a challenge. One I believe we can win but we certainly aren't going to get it all our own way.

I agree with 3spirit. Their caretaker manager has worked with many of the current sqaud in the past and having watched them a few times they play well as a unit and are very fit and shut the opposing side down quite well ( Hitchin!!).

I also agree that we should beat them but we should not go out with the attitude is a done deal. The best way to bet these sides is play it on the ground, ball to feet, use the wingers and get round the back of them.

Off to Billy Smarts circus tonight to see the clown in black in his day job with make up on.

The off-side taken in the wrong half was the clown’s best joke!

Our performance was not up to scratch either, but Kings Langley came with a game plan and almost got away with it.

Now a bag load of suspensions to get out of the way, and a need to steady the boat and get back to winning ways.

How the F*ck did we not win today.

As I said pre match, Kings Langley were not a good team and without getting out of second gear we were all over them.

Our front four were unbelievably greedy in the first half. Pass the ball !!!

Positive is we never stopped trying and got a point which keeps us moving forward and still in 3rd.

Not even going to bother with the ref or Kings Langley’s “injuries”.

Yep Kings Langley came with a game plan. Work hard and be well organised at the back and playing the 'game' - time-wasting, long stoppages always trying to break up our rhythm. We largely dominated the game. And got hit by two wonder goals. The only thing that disappointed me with Kings Langley's performance was that they celebrated their goals in front of the stand when they should have run to the three youngsters behind the goal who were belting out songs at the top of their voices. It looked like being one of those days when we would rue missed chances but we kept battling which is great credit to the lads and a 97th minute equaliser after Scotty again caused havoc at a corner got us a point in a game we probably should have won but it was certainly entertaining and me and the little ones certainly enjoyed our celebrations!

Fair play to Kings Langley for two well taken goals and a decent game plan.

Just a shame that they had to resort to play acting for 'injuries' and blatant time wasting. I thought that the ref was far too lenient with their players.

I thought that Mark Nisbet was unlucky to be sent off. From my angle their no.9 flicked the ball past him then deliberately turned into Nisbet giving him no chance to get out of the way. Two one game bans for Dobson and Dunn. Will Nisbet's ban be more than one game bearing in mind that he has already had a red card this season?

Credit to Slough for pressing on to the end and getting a deserved point.

Comical element of the afternoon was at the final whistle their manager was moaning at the ref over the amount of injury time played.

I suppose a point rescued from 2 down has to be a positive thing but this was another below par display from our  early season performances  Our last 5 league games have produced just 5/15 points  ( 1 win 2 draws 2 losses ) But  only Leamington has lost fewer league points so far  so we are still in a very strong position  Our next league opponents have managed just 2 points in their last 5 games so lets hope for an excellent result and a return to winning ways.

I was confused...

How did the ref allow the ridiculous time wasting from the kick off

How did he not send off 4 when he was the last man and took out Mooney when he was through on goal

How we hadn't scored in the first half

How KL got so lucky with two almost freak goals

How determined we were in the last 15 minutes

How the ref sent off number when it was clear the striker just ran into him

How we hadn't won against a poor but spoiler intent side.

And finally if I was happy at the end with a point

After mulling it over I decided I watched my team play well (although not at their best, were unlucky, playing against 12 men (ref) but battled to the end.

Whilst we lost ground on the league leaders I am happy that whilst it clearly wasn't our day we got a deserved point and thankful I watch STFC and not kl.

We go again on Tuesday.

Certainly a frustrating match and at 0-2 I think most of us felt it was game over. Credit to the players for their perseverance and a point gained in the end although before KO most were expecting a win. Losing pace with Leamington but still well placed within the play-off spots which you have to happy with. Still plenty to play off and I'm certainly not writing off any championship ambitions yet.

We didn't win today because KL scored two unbelievable strikes from the very few opportunities they got and we spurned a host of opportunities and on the day the the luck just wasn't with us.

SRJ, after one early season viewing, you said KL were one of the poorest sides we had played so far. It's all about opinions and IMO KL are not a good team but are certainly not a poor team.

I'm with you on this,Irishadrian. I was disappointed with our overall play today.

Yes, a great comeback but I thought we should of made substitutions far earlier than we did, as our team had hardly set the world on fire with their performance.

First half we created very little, apart from the odd long shot from Dobbo,Togs and Putts but even with them they were looking for the showboat goal for glory, when at times they should be looking to play the right pass. I'm all for having long range shots but our wide players, at times, were wasting opportunites by being greedy.

Our passing game was non-existent until Nathan Webb was introduced to the action. Finally we started to string some decent passes together and with him and Wazza's introduction to the game, our team started to get some joy in our attacking play.

You can blame the ref and you can moan about King's Langley gamesmanship but I think sometimes our players need to accept some of the blame for what was, in the main, a lack lustre display today.

The ref was one of the worst we've had this season, but to clear up the offside indirect free kick in our own half...

a player CAN commit an offside OFFENCE in their own half if they go back into their own half from an offside position

With the exception of offences in the goal area, throughout the Laws every free kick is awarded from the place where the offence occurs so it is logical that this should also apply to offside.

This was cut and pasted from the Laws section on the FA website.

The offside laws changed slightly before this season so that the ref can give the free kick from where the infringement occurred.

So the law is now ... if our player was offside and came back to touch the ball, the free kick is where he touched the ball/interfered even if it was in his own half.

Another change of law is an injured player no longer has to leave the pitch if a yellow card is shown to the offender, as happened on Tuesday night.

Even so... the ref had a very poor game
