There's much truth in the old saying "When the going gets tough the tough get going". On Saturday, Town travel down to Hampshire to face league leaders Havant & Waterlooville in the Ryman Premier Division, and a tough challenge is definitely on the cards at Westleigh Park, in what will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs.

 

The Hawk's moved top of the table on Tuesday evening, beating Billericay 0-2 away, having thumped them 5-0 at home in the FA Trophy last weekend. Havant are having a good season. They are in a strong position and are rightly considered genuine title contenders this term.

 

Our opponents have an excellent home record to date, with 6 wins, 2 draws, and just one defeat. The only team to win at Westleigh Park so far is, surprisingly, Met Police who beat the Hawk's 1-2 in mid-October.

 

After last weekends premature exit from the FA Trophy, Town will be looking to get back on track and make a statement of intent at Havant. To secure a place in the play-offs this season, these are the kind of matches that we need to win. It won't be easy, but it is far from impossible, if we step up to the table, deliver a high-energy performance, and take our chances.

 

Best of luck to Brad and the boys. Go out and do yourself justice guys. It's "must win" for Town if we want to stay close to the top!

The weather down here on the south coast can be quite unpredictable, but the forecast for tomorrow in the Havant area is pretty good.

 

According to the BBC weather people, it will be mainly dry, with a good deal of sunshine and occasional showers. It will remain chilly, with light or moderate winds. Hope this helps!

Tomorrow's  match against the league leaders is attracting a fair amount of interest.

Whilst Havant are a good side and will start as favourites, Town are more than capable of upsetting the odds. A quick glance at the Hawk's league form, since their home defeat by Met Police a month ago, gives genuine cause for optimism that we can get something from this match. In their three most recent RPD matches, they have drawn 0-0 at home to Leiston, drawn 1-1 away to Hendon, and beaten Billericay away 0-2, with two penalties from former Bognor striker Jason Prior. 

Prior is Havant's top goal-scorer, and will need to be closely watched, as he is quite a handful and a very dangerous forward. He scored a hatful of goals for Bognor, before joining the Hawk's in the summer.

Great win yesterday against a team who started the day at the top of the league.

 

Long way to go for the faithful who probably travelled down to the south coast more in hope than expectation. The gutsy performance was exactly what was required - Havant will have better games and their Manager said they'd had some illness in the camp but you can only beat what's put in front of you! Our early goal and their penalty miss by one of the best strikers in the league certainly helped.

 

Everybody worked very hard on the day and I dare say there was a lot of work put in by the whole squad and management team in the week before the game - it showed, well done to all.

As wins go, this victory takes some beating. Away to a wealthy club, relegated from Conference South last season, hell-bent on a quick return, and top of the Ryman Premier Division table (well they were), we needed something special from our guys, to get anything from this match, and we got it. In a very physical match, where no quarter was asked or given, Town delivered a spirited, total commitment team performance, from start to finish, in very difficult conditions, and fully deserved their win.

 

The boys did us all proud on our first visit to this ground. We showed what we are capable of against one of the better organised sides in the league. Our work rate, application, clinical competence, and will-to-win, was superb. Maintain this level of performance and self-belief in future matches, and we will have a very good chance of climbing the table and making the play-offs.

 

On a light-hearted note, I have just read, with amusement, some of the one-sided comments posted by Hawk's supporters on the 'havant and Waterlooville. net forums, following their humbling home defeat yesterday. If you want a chuckle take a quick peep yourself.

 

For me, the posting which takes the biscuit, is by 'King of Spades', who clearly believes H&W are bigger and better than all the other Ryman Premier Division clubs. His quotes beggar belief, and must be a total embarrassment to his own club. Clearly he can't take defeat, gives no credit to the opposition, and his comments serve only to confirm that 'In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is King'!

 

Finally, great to see so many of the loyal Town faithful down here on the south coast. Well done all!

To be fair there are some who gave us some credit but I'm not quite sure where some get that attitude from - they've got a lot to learn at this level! If they're so good, how did they get relegated last year?!

 

Interesting to hear their manager's comments on Youtube about the stream of so called supporters who left when our second goal went in. Hope they got home in time to see Spurs two goals after that time.....
