It was part of the planning consent to complete by 10pm so floodlights could be switched off at that time. Bit of a potential problem if penalties come into play.

Especially if we need 34 penalties to decide it like Chelsea and Oxford United needed last week in the EFL Trophy.

Finished 2 - 0 . Good solid performance especially second half when we managed the game nicely and protected the HT advantage, Two good performances against MT to bounce back from the Hitchen game. Need to carry that forward to our next two league games and put some pressure on the teams around us some of who have some tricky fixtures coming up.

Nice home draw in the next round although it means a midweek trip to St newts probably in January now. Still better to be winning in the cup.

A really superb performance and win from the team tonight against an excellent Merthyr side.

 

The first half for me was undoubtedly the best 45 minutes of football I've seen this season. It had everything, skill, pace and power in abundance and two top draw goals to top it off.

 

I thought Merthyr started like a house on fire and we found it difficult to cope with their pace and intricate passing. We kept battling away, defended superbly and scored two excellent goals from Charlie Moone and Simon Dunn.

 

With a 2-0 lead I thought we gave the perfect second half performance. We upped our work rate and closed down the Merthyr players at every opportunity which in turn restricted Merthyr to very few second half chances.

 

Overall a top draw team performance tonight with Simon Dunn deserving his MOTM for his superbly taken goal and all round performance closely followed for me by Lee Togwell who again I thought was excellent.

We beat a very good team today. Some superb play in the first 45 and the 2nd played out quite dully in comparison. The 2nd goal was one of the best worked goals I've seen at this level. Very good result.

 

 

2nd half certainly was dull compared to an end to end first half where there were chances galore, the only difference being that we took our chances and Merthyr didn't.

 

At 2-0 up it was the perfect second half performance, with very few chances given to Merthyr. Duller, but in the context of winning the game it was perfect!

Thoroughly professional job, well done to the players. Other than a few early chances first half which Scott dealt with superbly, we kept them very quiet. Two quality goals as well. Great to Moone back on form again.

A certainly winnable but tough tie in the next round but done big league games to focus on first.
