Frome town manager

Recommended Posts

Football authorities have missed a huge opportunity, the Frome manager gets 3 year ban, yet Joey Barton can place 44 bets in 2 1/2 months and all he gets is a one match ban. Lesser punishment than any of his many red cards.

The FA have never been consistent when handing out suspensions for off the field offences.

Now that a few more details and "facts" have come out about the original Nick Bunyard case, he only made 8 bets against his own team. (4 times the team won, 2 times they drew and 2 times they lost).

I'm not sure if Barton ever bet against his own team but if he didn't then their is a big difference between the two, even if only morally.

The rules on betting by the FA are clearly not working as it is clear a lot of players/managers are still betting on matches. My opinion it is time they changed the rules as they are very difficult to monitor and enforce and it seems most people are not worried about being caught as it happens so rarely. I think they should consider changing the rules to you not being allowed to bet on any matches involving a club from the league you are involved with.

Or perhaps make the punishments more punitive in the first place to make for a higher deterrence. I read that a total of 97 offences were committed and Mr Bunyard tried to ameliorate his position by stating that lots of people were up to it. It's like a house burglar in court pleading that he shouldn't be punished because his mate was up the road on the same night but didn't get caught. As my dear grandmother used to say somewhat ungrammatically "two wrongs don't make no right". The NLP editorial last week was taking this view as well.

May I just refer to the laws of sport in brief..... Betting, (For or against 'your team'), is banned by the sports authorities concerned.  Spot betting on cricket nearly ruined the sport that I love and grew up with.

We all know know that it still goes on in football, cricket, horse-racing and God only knows what others.

The Ex-Frome Manager MUST have known the laws and decided to 'Test the water' !!

The FA have released a more detailed statement since many contradictory stories are circulating They say they have proof that when Weymouth beat Frome 2-0 in early April 2016 Bunyard had multiple bets on his team to lose and by more than 1 goal They say this one bet netted him in excess off £2000!

Does it mention how much money he lost on the games which he bet against his team when they didn't actually lose.

To win £2,000 he must have bet a significant amount on what is a fairly specific bet for football at this level. Most online bookmakers only offer win/lose/draw bets. Surely this should have been seen as suspicious.
