GH4
Hello everyone, Firstly I would like to thank everybody for their support over the past 3 and a bit years at slough. As many are aware my mum sadly passed away a couple of weeks back. It was my mothers funeral on Wednesday and we asked attendees if they would kindly donate to the princess Alice Hospice in Esher instead of flowers. I guess until you have experienced the work and care hospices provide it's hard to actually understand what is needed to keep these places running. And if you have, then I know you can relate to this situation we found ourselves in. The Princess Alice Hospice in Esher, were amazing. Our family stayed by our mums side for the final three weeks of her life, living in this Hospice. The care, dedication and sincerity of all the staff there was truly remarkable. We slept in mums room for three weeks and and never left her side. She celebrated her birthday whilst in the hospice and it allowed us to create our final memories with our mum and be at her side all holding her hand as she took her last breath. We got to know the staff really well and understand the funding they need to keep running. Prior to mum going to he Hospice she was in hospital for nearly 3 weeks. Again we never left her side and we thought at one point she may spend her final days in a hospital Ward, not purposely designed to help with end of life care and comfort. Hospices are so important for the final Stages of life and we really are so thankful for the support and care mum received and that we received as a family once mum was admitted to the hospice. I spoke to one of the night staff one evening and found out that they only receive 20% funding from the NHS and have to find the other 80% from funding and charity work. So here we have set up a donation page in honour of my Mum to help keep the Hospice she stayed in afloat and at least contribute to them and help them in their efforts to give people their dignity and a place of tranquility for both patient and families in their final days. I don't like to ask but would appreciate any contributions any are able to make. I think bakes has arranged some buckets also for the game and would appreciate any contributions that any are able to make. If not then I understand and as I said I don't like to ask, I just thought it a nice gesture for the hospice. Keep getting behind the team this year and thanks again to all the fans and people connected with slough for their support during my time here so far. I have posted a link below to her donation page, apologies if it doesn't work if someone could help out? I haven't set up a topic before. https://www.funeralzone.co.uk/obituaries/22835

David Carpenter
Hi Guy. From personal experience I do understand and appreciate the work hospices carry out and I will gladly make a donation tomorrow. Reflecting what others have said your ongoing contribution to the Club has been enormous and long may it continue. I am sure your Mum (and Dad) are extremely proud of you. It goes without saying that this has all been a sad and stressful time for you all. To you, your Dad and the rest of your family best wishes to you all for the future. Stan
That is a very eloquent explanation of the fantastic job the hospice movement does. It's a service that is never at the forefront of public awareness yet when you need them they are simply unbelievable. I hope that someone passes on your post to the staff at Hospice as I am sure it will make them proud. Good luck for the collection tomorrow. Alan Greenaway
Guy A lovely note. I too lost my mother and she was in a Windsor hospice for her last days and the comfort that they gave the family was extraordinary. Although several years ago now, I still support that hospice. I do not think many people appreciate that they only get 20% NHS funding. I will also be making a contribution tomorrow.

Alan Greenaway
It is Irish Adrian. They have just sent a newsletter this week announcing that they have acquired some land near Bray Marina and subject to planning permission will be moving from Hatch Lane 2018/2019. The new premises will be able to provide a further 20+ beds. As stated above 80% of their funding is voluntary and I firmly believe that a high proportion of the population do not realise this. bunderwood
Maureen and I have known Guy, and his father Rupert for a number of years at Godalming and, of course, Slough. Guy has given so much to both clubs, he gives his all in every game. We are so sad at the loss of his mum. We send our condolences to Guy and his family.
