Basingstoke Town v Slough Town

Curtis Just out of interest Basingstoke have played 3 midweek away games so far this season Lost all 3 scored 0 conceded 9 so I think Chippenham may be the favoured side in this one

Irish, I think you've also got to remember that B'stoke are young team that seem to be improving all the time. Sometimes young teams/players play nice football but get steam rollered by the teams who have older/wiser players with more experience.

Chippenham is not an easy place to go but a draw or B'stoke win would be nice.

Basingstoke are at Chippenham on Tuesday....... the result might give us an indication of whether yesterday was just a poor performance from us, or if they are a lot better than we give them credit for.

Personally don't think it was a poor first half from us and with 11 players on the pitch we could well have been 2 or 3 goals up.

Take away the first goal which was poorly defended, B'stoke only really got on top when we went down to 10 men which can be a bit mis-leading as to how good the oppo really are.

Sometimes with teams with 10 men can still get a result but unfortunately we were the opposite and fell apart.

Basingstoke are a young side and improving at that, but the 4-1 scoreline doesn't reflect the game IMO. They were fortunate not to be out of the game at half time and although we had to make changes I wasn't expecting them to beat us, so the goal from a corner was a surprise (against the run of play from the first 45 mins.), and it gave them an early impetus, whereas if we'd survived for a further 20 minutes we would have seen off their threat. Of course we shot ourselves in the foot with the red card.

Sometimes that sort of luck helps a team as it did them, but as we know swings and roundabouts etc. Looking forward to whenever we gain that kind of fortune to win a game!

Onto Dorchester, COYR

Probably in the minority here, but I thought Basingstoke performed well on Saturday. We had three good chances, and took one. One pulled an amazing save from their keeper, the other was from a free kick which the keeper fumbled and Putts got to first but the keeper was close enough to block. Let's not forget the home side had some clear headers and similarly to us, with better finishing could have well been level, at least, at half time.

Thought they moved the ball around well, always starting short at the back and even 11 v 11 in the first half were moving the ball around very well and finding space in the middle of the park. This set them up perfectly when we went down to ten as they were happy to move the ball around and be patient with it, taking their moments to get the ball forward as they needed to. No qualms with either the red card or the pen (looked an aggressive barge from the other end). They'll improve as the season goes on without doubt, unless some of the players do get picked up higher in the leagues and disrupts them. Some of their radio folks said before the game they struggled to score, so it was surprising to see them hit four, even if we did gift two of them, as they did look a decent side and missing their top scorer I believe who started on the bench.

Not entirely sure what the keeper did, that we wouldn't want or expect Scotty/Jacko to do, to warrant as much abuse as he got in controlling the tempo of the game from the box either.

But, it's just one game and it'll be forgotten about after a good performance against Dorchester on Tuesday night. Let's get behind the lads and hopefully straight back to winning ways and the start of another unbeaten run.

The keeper was taunting the fans and celebrating in their face every time they scored, that's why he got a lot of abuse. IMO the abuse was a bit OTT though but some was warranted.
