Basingstoke Town v Slough Town

What a difference a few months makes. When the season kicked off in August the Rebels were 50-1 relegation fodder and Basingstoke were 5-1 favourites for the title Our management and team had other ideas! This will be an interesting game with a few private battles possible Simon Dunn (and others) took a lot of criticism and abuse as Basingstoke were relegated last season How will he feel on the opposing side? And of course Terry Brown is their manager Im expecting an entertaining and open game We will have to watch Hallahan closely who has regained his scoring form The bookies (what do they know) have it 5/4 Slough 6/4 Basingstoke 11/4 draw

It is one thing being beaten by a better team but when you lose a game like today with the ref so against you, you feel powerless to compete on a level playing field.

In the long run a loss may do us some good to bring us back to ground and keep us focused.

Hopefully Togwell and Stonehouse aren't badly injured and Barney and James are back soon.

Not sure if Terry Brown has been teaching them to play football or diving.

We got what we deserved today. We haven't had many blips so far this season, but this was one. Time to take a deep breath and move on to Tuesday evening.

I really wish some of our supporters wouldn't blame other people. The referee for correctly sending off Nisbet. Basingstoke supporters for choosing to stand behind the goal they are defending. Basingstoke's players for slowing the game down to a crawl. We gave away a soft goal early in the second half, Nisbet walked, and then Hollis stupidly gave a penalty away. We were never getting back into it after that. I was impressed by Basingstoke. Blaming other people for losing today is more than a little embarrassing.

Matt got to disagree about the ref, penalty and sending off correct, but booked Dobbo for kicking ball away yet their no9 got away with it, no7 got treatment after foul for red card but didn't leave pitch, no8 on three occasions at least clattered our players after ball had gone, nothing done, and then clear two footed challenge on Webb and he plays on and they scored fourth. Don't get me wrong, we were poor 2nd half but the ref was terrible.

My version of today's game:

First half we were relatively comfortable with Putts excellent strike to give us the lead and their keeper making an excellent save from Charlie Moone's header that kept B'Stoke in the game.

Losing Togs in the 12th minute of the first half and Stoney at half time was a major double blow.

Second half we conceded a very poorly defended goal to a corner that was played to the near post.

Mark Nisbet then has a rush of blood to the head, lunges into a player very close to the half way line and deservedly gets a straight red.

We then take off Moone and re place him with Dan Hicks to compensate for the loss of Nisbet.

B'stokes second goal in my opinion came from a non-existant attempt at a tackle from Nathan Webb and we are 2-1 down.

I was too far away so cannot comment either way as to whether it was a penalty or not.

B'stokes 4th goal from my view looked like a foul on Nathan Webb in the build up to it.

For me losing Togs before half time and Stoney at half time coupled with Nis getting sent off was in my view the reasons why we came away with no points.

Don't think anyone was blaming them for us losing Matt, that was our own doing we are aware of that and I think we all know you can't win every game.

But you can't blame people for moaning about players slowing down a game or some of the referees decisions. I for one dont think Guys was a penalty but there you go.

I also didn't appreciate their woman steward calling us dodgy fans at half time, but do I blame them for us losing no I don't.

Firstly I didn't say we lost because of the ref!

Secondly, how much pulling and kicking of Harris, Dobson and Putman were they allowed to get away with. Just because you don't fall to the ground as quickly as their players did doesn't mean it is not a foul. How many times can you handle the ball before getting a booking? I'll never know how the no. 7 didn't get a booking in the first half the number of fouls he committed, just ridiculous.

We were no where near our best and over 90 did not deserve to get the points.

When the ref is so against one team it becomes very difficult for that team to win.

A player who gets treatment only has to leave the pitch if the offending player doesn't get booked.

Hope that isn't aimed at me Matt.... their fan at our end kept on swiping at me what ever I said. No one else just me. So if u think I am not going to defend myself you have got to be joking. You are entitled to your opinion but no don't judge others for theres

Have to say the Ref wasn't great but I don't think he was a big contributory factor in our loss.

As said losing Togs, Stoney and then Nis to a red turned the game on it's head. From being relatively comfortable at half time IMO these events were the reasons why we lost.

I would agree that the referee didn't have the best of games, but perhaps the referee's performance is more noticeable when your side is losing. Some Basingstoke supporters have said he missed late challenges by our players on them, so it works both ways.

In all honesty we will not blame the ref at all, we had one of those days, where things did not go our way, two injuries first half, a poor first goal to give away, and then a challenge that is rash and a red card.

Instead of then going narrow and holding our line we gave the ball away on the half way line and then sold ourselves, to concede the second.

The third is a debatable penalty, it was a shoulder barge from Guy, probably not a penalty but as the lad was going away from goal it was a challenge that did not need to be made and gave the referee a decision.

The 4th is a foul on Nathan, and should not have been given.

In reality we looked a bit jaded today, the lads have given everything in the 20 games we have played so far, and every team will have one of these days, we just need to react in the right way now, which I am sure we will.

We need all the fans to get behind the lads on Tuesday, and make sure we get good numbers at the game...

Fantastic 12 games unbeaten in the league, however we need to start a new run now.
