Bryco Cup - Arlesey Town 0 Hornchurch 2

Our second attempt to play this game.

It was a tight first half and much different from the 25 minutes or so that got played last time when we were well on top. Arlesey keeper Martyn Patching made two good early saves. The first from a Gavin McGowan 20 yard shot in the 12th minute and then a point blank save from a Vinnie John header in the 16th minute. Arlesey had strong penalty claims turned down with ten minutes to go, probably the first of many decisions which angered the home support, and the half ended goalless.

An early second half chance fell for Arlesey's Shane Blackett when he shot across goal and wide when well placed but Vinnie John gave us the lead in the 54th minute, nipping in behind the defence to collect a long ball from Lee Matthews and rifle into the roof of the net. John was then replaced by Opara after picking up an injury whilst scoring. Two minute later Arlesey's Jack Midson got clear after Lee Matthews lost control of the ball in defence, and his shot was well saved by Danny Gay with a forward running in at the far post. Mid-way through the half Patching made another great save from a McGowan long range shot and then Matthews headed just over from the resulting corner. Then, with about 6 minutes left, the referee awarded us a penalty, a decision which left crowd and players puzzled. Andrew Martin stepped up to coolly slot home to complete the scoring.

Line-up:- Gay, Gooding, Kerrigan, Adedeji, Matthews, J Martin (Cowley 90), Graham, McGowan, John (Opara 52), A Martin, Allen (Heathcote 61).

Subs not used:- Locke, Collier (GK).

I didn't get there last night due to a nightmare trip back from the midlands but GC gave me a running mobile link commentary and all I could hear was that gobby tart in their directors box who I recall from last year...christ what a mouth...
