Dunstable Town v Slough Town

Recommended Posts

1st place Slough travel to 4th place Dunstable on Tuesday. The Rebels are 4 points clear at the top of the table and 6 points ahead of The Blues. Slough are unbeaten in 10 League games and have won 8 consecutive, whereas Dunstable have lost the last 3 in the League.

We have a great opportunity to already open up a 9 point gap over the 4th place team if we can win this game at Creasey Park. I'm not convinced that Dunstable are quite as good as their current League position suggests and I think Slough are more than capable of winning this. Our recent head to head record is very good having beaten them in 3 League meetings in the previous 18 months including 2 wins at their ground. Slough's team is much improved this season and The Rebels can come away with another victory here, however, a draw wouldn't be a bad result at all. It is difficult to see Slough losing to anyone in the League at the moment.

The match squad should be similar to the previous game, minus Nathan Webb who is unavailable, and is likely to be the following:

Mark Scott, Jamie Jackson, Sean Fraser, Josh Jackman, Nathan Smart, Paul Stonehouse, Mark Nisbet, Guy Hollis, Dan Hicks, Warren Harris, James Dobson, Simon Dunn, Lee Togwell, Adrian Sear, Charlie Moone and Lewis Putman.

Recent Head to Head:

05/03/2016  Slough Town 1-0 Dunstable Town  League

24/11/2015  Dunstable Town 1-3 Slough Town  League

11/04/2015  Dunstable Town 2-4 Slough Town  League

06/12/2014  Slough Town 0-3 Dunstable Town  League

22/02/2014  Slough Town 4-0 Dunstable Town  League

03/12/2013  Dunstable Town 3-2 Slough Town  League

As a Dunstable fan or member of staff, I would read that and would seriously motivate me to beat us! Some brilliant info on there but some of it I don't think should be said.

I bet Bakes/Unders as an opposing manager read this, they would wind the lads up with it. Just saying!

I have just realised a similar thing was talked about in another thread, I hadn't read it at the time of writing this one...

I agree by the way about saying we can win etc! Saying a team is in a false position is wrong tho and it's difficult to see us losing to anyone at the minute is also wrong and builds teams up to come and do a job on us! That's just my opinion!

Anyone who has played at a semi decent level will know that if you see anything written negative in their eyes that motivates them more! I will back off from this discussion but I guarantee that Bakes and Unders will have at some point used what has been said about a game they are playing in as a motivation tool!

I never said they were in a false position, I said: "I'm not convinced that Dunstable are quite as good as their current League position suggests". But we will only know that once they have actually played everyone then we can see where they are in the table. You are misunderstanding what I meant.

I am not wrong to say that, in my opinion, it is difficult to see us losing to anyone in the league at the moment. It is a true statement that we are in good form, have won leagues 8 in a row, are unbeaten in 10 league games, conceded only 5 league goals this season. Teams will be built up to come and do a job on us because of this record and how good our team is. Of course, we will probably lose at some point but I am not wrong in suggesting that it is difficult to see us lose at this moment in time, it is an obvious statement to say really when you look at our current record this season and how well we have played. This doesn't mean that we can't be beat, it means that we are a difficult side to beat.

Any predictions on tonight's game?

Dunstable do have good home form so far this season, despite losing their last home game 3-1 against Basingstoke, and I think they might score - so I'm going for 2-1 win to Slough.

Dunstable fans and players can find their own stats, so nothing there to worry about if you ask me. I'm pretty sure their players won't need motivating to play us anyway.

Agreed, why would we be worried about what Dunstable fans and players might think. As you rightly said their players won't need motivating to play us (by anything they might read here) as they will be motivated by the fact that we are top of the league, are a very good side and are difficult to beat. Well, this is a Slough Fans Forum, not a Dunstable Fans Forum, it is a place to celebrate our team - Slough Town Football Club! COYR

If you have played at a decent level or not you should be motivated regardless of what some face in the crowd thinks, otherwise I suggest you should give the game up .

I thought the same thing, surely you should be motivated regardless. He probably meant it might give them some sort of extra motivation, but if we can't be confident and singing the praises of our club when we are doing well then when can we. Enjoy the good times when we have them :-)

Here is Jon Underwood's piece looking ahead to the game against Dunstable.

*Please note: Some of the content might motivate the opposition fans and players.  :P

I have no problem before a game using stats and praising your own club i.e. top of the table, playing well etc etc because that is all stuff that the opposition will be aware of and know all about but I think making any statement about the opposition that could be seen as derogatory towards them i.e. 'not convinced they're as good as their current league position suggests' could and probably will be used in any team talk to give their players some extra motivation against us.

All players are different and in an ideal world all players should always be 100% motivated before a game but managers are always looking at ways to get that extra 10% out of some of their players that could mean the difference between winning and losing.

Remember this is now a private forum and to read anything on here you have to register an account, whilst it is quite easy to do so it would put a lot of people off looking at this forum if they were only interested in looking at one topic. Basically there are not a big number of non Slough fans on here and probably not many opposition managers or players would bother coming on here.

Most people would look at Twitter of Facebook comments about upcoming matches rather than this forum. So if any motivation is gained from comments it is unlikely to come from here.

How do you know? Have you watched Dunstable play this season?

Any team can beat any team, don't matter how good you think your side is.

Our players will go into the game with belief and confidence, which is good, but you never know what will happen in any match.

Take the Cambridge game,we only won 1-0 when everyone was expecting Slough to pretty much thrash Cambridge.

You can take nothing for granted, that's the beauty of football.

I never said anything that was derogatory towards the opposition, please read things properly before you make accusations towards me. I have already explained this in a post since then what my meaning was with regards to that comment. I very much doubt any Dunstable players or management will use any of my opinions in their team talks, that is just utter nonsense if you really think that. They already know all the things I said as they can see the league table, results, and stats for themselves. I am a Slough fan that they have never heard of, my opinion counts for nothing towards the game. You are taking things far too seriously.

Exactly! Are they going to care about anything we say here? Is it going to make any difference to the game? The answer is, No. It's just a fan's forum where a small number of supporters are giving their armchair opinions. There does seem to be a lot of undercover Dunstable fans here though judging by some of the replies

Just to clear a few things up, I would rarely if at all ever use what is written on a fans forum in our team talk, however comments from a manager, staff, players and even officials then absolutely... and has been done in the past on numerous occasions.

Hence why we are always pretty respectful of our opponents, whether we believe it or not.

In terms of firing up our lads, it is a pretty easy job at present, and we hope that can continue, however at some point we will hit a blip, as every side does, however it is how we respond that will show if we have the mettle for a title battle..

I don't think anything that has been said is derogatory, and hopefully we can just all get behind the lads for those that make the journey and help try to spur us on to another 3 points.

Thank you Neil for clearing things up.

That is exactly what I have been trying to do get behind the lads and enjoy the good spell we are currently experiencing, as you said: "at some point we will hit a blip".

Cheers and good luck for the game tonight, I know everyone will give 100% anyway regardless of the result.
