Slough Town v Cambridge City

Recommended Posts

On the stats front we have to add the best attendence of the day again.

So good to see old faces coming back new ones joining including more young people joining the Rebeloution.

With this the chanting started early in the game some we will have new cheer leaders.

Does look a bit concerning in every home game on the new pitch how many players are getting injured early on.

Our free kicks and corners have really improved this season with variation as they say from the training ground.

Dunny unlucky again with one of his powerful long range shots.

It's a credit to the fantastic start we have had to the season..... but I think we may well have to endure several other clubs attempting to pick up a draw at Arbour Park this season.

We are going to have to find a better way to counter it, because with only the single shot on goal in the first half (from Stonehouse), it did look for a long while as though Cambridge's tactics might have succeeded.

They came with no intention of attacking. They play acted to try to get moone sent off. In summary they were a poor team trying to get a point at any cost.

We were clearly the better team and served the win.

If we want to be at the tip at the end of the season it's these games we need to keep winning.

Agree, a couple of their players were a disgrace for their antics in trying to get players sent off but can't really knock a poor team for trying all the tricks in the book to scrape a much needed point.

This is why we love football and what makes it such a great and interesting game, there are so many variables which can affect the outcome of the result. The contrasting styles of play, the refereeing decisions, injuries, substitutions, tactics, form, fixtures, prioritising competitions, preparation, experience, motivation, pitch conditions, weather, crowd support, even down to plain old luck.

With Putts coming off injured do we now need another striker in on loan?

We have some massive games coming up with only one fit striker in Charlie Moone.

Jon Underwoood said in the interview after the game that he didn't think there were any injury problems from the game apart from Nathan Webb who took a knock, but he is unavailable for the next match anyway, Jon said it will be a similar squad for Tuesday. So maybe Lewis Putman is ok then and it was nothing.

Must admit it didn't look a 'nothing injury' to me with possibly a hamstring problem?

Await the injury report on Putts with interest.

........and Charlie isn't quite up to speed yet since he came back.

Trouble is finding a good one, at a moment's notice, isn't easy and we know our managers don't want to make changes for changes sake and upset our team's rhythm.

Luckily we have a lot of options on the right hand side, so we can use Wazza again up front.

Lewis sat down in front of us in the stand just before he came off and was stretching his leg like he had cramp. Perhaps 2 almost 90 minutes in 5 days when he hadnt played much football at all over the last 6 weeks took their toll.

On the game front, one of those games where we totally out played the opposition but just needed that goal to go in. I think had we got that from Puts free kick or the potential pen in the first half we would have won that game by a far bigger margin.

On teams coming to us to park the bus - i think with the wide variety of both goal scorers and ways we have scored goals this season thus far, we should be able to get these break throughs in these tight games, which is a massive positive for our prospects in the league.

If teams do come to ' park the bus ' then we will be fine. It's OK for a club to,use it as one-off tactic but it only works occasionally ( it did not for Cambridge ). We will still win the majority of games in those circumstances although they may be tight and tense. Take it as a compliment , be patient as we were yesterday and enjoy the attacking moves we put together.

The reason we have only conceded 5 league goals is not the defence or the keepers excellence ( although they are ) it's because 70% of the time we are in the oppos half attacking them. Teams just don't get that much of the ball when we play our high tempo passing game. Defending starts at the front and one of the real features this season has been the work rate of every player when we don't have possession, no heads down no jogging back but real commitment to regaining possession. On skill alone we deserve to be in the top 5 ; what has put us top and clear by 4 points is intelligent hard work.

Love looking (well constantly staring without blinking if I am going to be honest) at the league table to see my Slough Town top of the league.

I think its more to do with the fact that most 'us fans' probably didn't expect to be in this position at any stage of the season (whether early days or the middle or the end ..... hopefully). I am sure the gaffers will say different....

Like to think league status is safe for another season (first hurdle which we all would have taken as a minimum at the start of the season).

My only concern, following on from Mr Rebel's comment, is that we do have a habit of saying things on social media about certain clubs which could pretty much do their team talk for them.

Going back to Barton a few years back, which I think they still go on about to this day.

Lets enjoy this moment, but be respectful of all opponents, the league is difficult enough without additional comments that opponents will be able to pin up on the board for their pre-match team talk.
