Slough v Dartford

Game of Throw-ins

Recommended Posts

Should have closed the game out at 2-1,we didn't deserve to lose

Still think we could do with another forward like a target man, someone to ruffle up opposing defences.

On the positive side we won't be having much of a fixture pile up.Next HOME crowd figures  will be will interesting.

Question Kirk, how do you close a game out that we were in control of if a ref gives a poor penalty... They were not getting back in that game IMO without the refs aid.

Cannot see this defeat having a long lasting negative affect to the squad and team we have currently. Gutted yes but inspiration to kick on for the rest of the season

Charlie Moone must have offended the ref somehow as it seemed like he had it in for him big time.

A shame that the Dartford pen came at a time where we looked to have control of the game. We were keeping the ball well and looked arguably more likely to add to our lead at that point until the ref gave them a dubious pen again seconds after Moone had yet again failed to win a free kick. Momentum swung in that moment and its frustrating it comes from ref decision

Assistant ref on the bench side made some diabolical calls too including giving a throw to them for dribbling off the field although luckily ref corrected it.

Team deservedly got applauded off at ft even if wasn't result we wanted. After losing James so early the team battled well and as others have said the fact we are disappointed to lose to a top half team from league above shows how much belief we have in this squad now.

League cup not exactly a major priority this season but hopefully by next weekend we have strong options squad wise and can get back on track vs Cambridge a team we already know a fair bit about having beating them in the FA cup on a horrible surface

Losing Gav James before the kick off was a massive blow to us, made worst by Charlie Moone's lack of game time recently.

I thought Charlie had a mixed game yesterday. He certainly wasn't at his best and did on a number of occasions, fall to the ground rather easy, in my opinion but I hasten to add not for the penalty he was awarded, as that was a clear penalty unlike Dartford's one !

His movement was good, though but he found it hard to impose his game on the match. Let's hope the rustiness will have gone for his next appearance.

Shame Charlie Mpi's in Dubai. Think we will need to bring another striker in now, possibly a loan deal because of all our injuries up front we currently have.

Cheated out of it by a one sided ref........even in the first half most 50/50 type decisions were given in favour of Dartford and it got worse in the second half especially for the penalty where there was no contact, and only limited appeals even from Dartford.

Good performance from us, we were their equals in most respects and should be in tomorrow's draw

Personally think bringing someone in would be a bit knee jerk. With Barney not being as bad as expected and the options in Putman (who was fought in as a striker in the first place) and also Harris hicks Webb etc we have plenty of options to cover.

I think we will be just fine

Barney's prognosis I think was 4/6 weeks and then he'll have to get back up to speed.

We don't yet know how long Gavin James will be out.

Warren Harris has been in great form playing out wide, although he can do a job in a more central position it is not ideal.

Lewis Putman started life at Slough as a center forward and was then moved out wide and flourished in that position, so again he can do a job in a more central position but again is it an ideal solution?

Add in the fact that we don't yet know how Charlie Moone is going to react after his lay off and he was to pick up another injury we would have serious problems.

I'm not sure how you've come to thinking that either Nathan Webb or Dan Hicks would be the answer.

Not sure why we wouldn't try to get a forward on loan for a month until some of our injuries clear up.

We've got ourselves into a great position and it would be a shame to end up dropping points due to a lack of fire power.

Obviously it would have to be the right player but IMO we should try to get someone in for the short term.

Neil said in the post-Dartford interview that former Basingstoke and Met.Police striker Nathan Smart will likely sign to play against Ashford on Tuesday, but he is presumably not fully match fit himself and not likely to be considered for League action?

Nathan is a right back/wide player, he has played most of the season so fully fit, he is happy to play the game, obviously if Josh had been available for this game it would have been a perfect one for him to play and we would not have brought Nathan in for the game.

However works well for both of us.

Lets just enjoy the game on Tuesday be a good run out for players like Charlie, Putts and Gary and not too much pressure on the others to get a result. No disrespect to Ashford but we have other fish to fry. If they catch us out as a result then good luck to them .

I agree, I don't think Dartford would have got back into the game let alone win it if it wasn't for that dubious decision from the ref to award them the penalty. I feel that Slough were giving the ball away a little too often at that stage in the game, perhaps it was a bit of tiredness creeping in, but even so Dartford didn't really look like scoring and we were pretty much containing them.

Not sure how you've heard the post match interview michaelSTFC, as far as I can see it hasn't been released yet.

Nathan Smart played a couple of games ago for Met Police so can we assume that he has now left them?

I have to say I thought it was a penalty to Dartford!

We were unlucky to lose though.

Wrong decisions by the lino gave Dratford possession. Two throw ins, foul on Charlie Moone, offside when ball headed behind by their No4. We would have had possesion from the throws, a free kick near the box & a corner, all happened inside 2/3minutes before their penalty. That's not giving the ball away. The Ref corrected a bad call by the lino on a throwin  when their player run the ball out of play.
