Slough v Dartford

Game of Throw-ins

Recommended Posts

Gutted for our managers, we really didn't deserve to lose that game. Dartford can count themselves very lucky today. Still can't believe we lost !

Was their penalty, a penalty?  From where I was standing, it didn't look like it should have been awarded.

Our players gave a great account of themselves today and on any other day they would have got something from the game.

Oh well, it wasn't to be, perhaps it will be a blessing in disguise in the long run, so that we can put all our focus into doing well in the league.

One positive from today's match was that their was very little to choose between either team ,which bodes well for the rest of the season for us. In fact, at times we were more than a match for them.

So our lads shouldn't be too downhearted, as they did the Slough fans proud today.

From where I was standing the problem was with the free kick leading up to the Dartford penalty. Charlie Moone was clearly fouled and then handled the ball so the award should have been for the first transgression - i.e. free kick to Slough Town. Anyway a really good performance with yet another injury to contend with. Let's bounce back! COYR!

Was interesting to hear the Dartford fans who were saying it was easy and the league we are in is awful. Soon corrected them as I thought they were very lucky (and no their penalty wasnt a penalty).

We can definitely hang in the league above, their number 11 was pretty decent though!

We were certainly the better team and didn't deserve to lose that.  As has been said, the foul missed on Charlie was crazy and even from the other end of the pitch you could see there was next to no contact for their penalty (even less contact than the foul he had just ignored at the other end).

However, the lads did us proud and we can't ask more than that, we more than matched a team from the level above so we can be pleased with that.  The other plus is that we will suffer less disruption to the league schedule which will help us in the long run - we are now still going to Merthyr on a Saturday, and we didn't have to move any of the other midweek fixtures to fit in a replay.

Now we can focus on the league and get back to winning ways starting with the league cup.  COYR!

Absolutely galling to lose in that manner when we certainly deserved a second bite of cherry. Could have been different I feel had Gav not had to go off as Charlie wasn't effective today, understandably. Dartford weren't befitting their league status and can feel very lucky to progress. Also a little disappointed the crowd was only slightly higher than Tuesday's match. Maybe going out will benefit our season in the long run and we'll get our revenge on the Darts next season ?

To the squad you can hold your heads up high another superb display.

To be beaten by the opposition is one thing

But to be beaten by some shocking officiating is terrible also what about the bookings were they justified. Alan Dowson's article in the recent Non League Paper about the poor officiating in the lower leagues was there for all to see today.

Lets go again heads up.

Firstly I'd like to say it was a fantastic effort from the team and we definitely deserved to get at least a replay and over the 90+ minutes I thought we were the better side.

Having said that I don't think we were at our best, whether that was because we put so much effort into the Leamington game whilst Dartford had no game in midweek I'm not sure.

For the first 10 minutes leading up to our first goal I thought we looked good, for the remainder of the first half I thought we started giving the ball away, especially in midfield, far too easily.

We started the second half brightly but I thought again we gave them a leg up by giving the ball away far too easily.

It would have been great to have the money and be in the hat for the next round but personally, win or lose, I wanted the tie to be decided on the day and not go to a replay. I think we have to look at the bigger picture which this season is the league and getting promoted.

We can be proud of our performance today because we proved as a squad we wouldn't be out of place at the next level up.

How do you sum it up? Bossed it then lost it! Most games this season we got what we deserved for our efforts but not so today At times especially in the first half it would have been very difficult for a neutral to be sure which team played at a higher level All the lads can be pleased with todays performance and look forward to continuing league success.

With Gavin James going off injured I make it we have only one fit forward in Charlie Moone who himself is only just coming back from an injury.

I would say we definitely now need reinforcements in the forwards department.

There was a rumour going around today that Charlie Mpi was coming back full time. Perhaps Bakes or Unders can confirm or dispel that rumour.

Important lesson from today. We were the better side for most of the match but it's not always the best side who wins ,it's who takes the opportunities when they arise. First 20 we were playing some lovely stuff ! Quality of Dobbo's cross forced the goal and we were well worth the half time lead. Second half Doobo had a great chance to make it 2- 0 but instead they went straight up the other end for 1-1. Then just as I posted yesterday I think they finished stronger and we ran out of steam a bit in the last 10 mins.

Would have been lovely to progress but performance, confidence and learning wise that was probably as 'good' a defeat as you can get. We matched a good side a league above and without the injuries I think we would have held on.

Still top of the league!

Thanks Dave.Just sitting at the bar in the resort. Just to make you jealous it is 95° at the moment (6.00 pm) will be there for the game v/s Cambridge.

Listened to the game on Rebels Radio and it would seem we were a bit unlucky and had chances in the 1st half to win it. Did losing James early make a diff?

Please to read all the comments over the last few games how well we are playing as a unit. Credit to Bakes and Unders for the additions to the squad during the summer. The addition of players with Conference experience has enabled us to reach a higher level. Let's hope we can now embark on another unbeaten run. It is also gratifying to read about groups and individuals that are visiting Arbour Park from outside the Borough and enjoying the experience. This can only be good for the future. COYR

I think we can all agree that losing a player of Gavin's ability would have made a difference. That coupled with Lee's injury has certainly affected the team profile. No criticism of Charlie but having been out for a while he certainly looked tired by the end. Really yet again a great performance and as has been discussed on this thread an unfortunate end to the game. This is an exiting group of players - let's carry on giving them our wholehearted support. Onwards and upwards! COYR! With regard to temperature I am glad you are enjoying yourselves but I must admit 95 deg would be a bit too much for me. Have a good journey back and see you at the Cambridge game.

Not sure where this rumour has come from, first we have heard, and last time I spoke to Charlie he was very happy with his job in Dubai.

Should have closed the game out at 2-1,we didn't deserve to lose

Still think we could do with another forward like a target man, someone to ruffle up opposing defences.

On the positive side we won't be having much of a fixture pile up.Next HOME crowd figures  will be will interesting.

Absolutely gutted we did get the win we deserved, but also absolutely proud of the players and management in regards to the performance, and the fact that we are all feeling gutted about not beating a team doing well in the National South league.

Also, going by how they celebrated winning they felt they had a very tough match.

After a few days and the losing feeling starts to fade, this result can be used as a massive positive going forward in our league endeavours.

Cannot see this defeat having a long lasting negative affect to the squad and team we have currently. Gutted yes but inspiration to kick on for the rest of the season

Charlie Moone must have offended the ref somehow as it seemed like he had it in for him big time.

A shame that the Dartford pen came at a time where we looked to have control of the game. We were keeping the ball well and looked arguably more likely to add to our lead at that point until the ref gave them a dubious pen again seconds after Moone had yet again failed to win a free kick. Momentum swung in that moment and its frustrating it comes from ref decision

Assistant ref on the bench side made some diabolical calls too including giving a throw to them for dribbling off the field although luckily ref corrected it.

Team deservedly got applauded off at ft even if wasn't result we wanted. After losing James so early the team battled well and as others have said the fact we are disappointed to lose to a top half team from league above shows how much belief we have in this squad now.

League cup not exactly a major priority this season but hopefully by next weekend we have strong options squad wise and can get back on track vs Cambridge a team we already know a fair bit about having beating them in the FA cup on a horrible surface
