Slough v Leamington

One thing that is noticeable is that I don't recall us being given a penalty at all so far this season, whereas Leamington and Chippenham have scored at least two, and Dunstable at least one.

We have dominated most of our matches and often been comfortably ahead at half-time, does this lead to referees being reluctant to award us penalties? Because I seem to recall several occasions when I think we should have been given them?

Refs will obviously deny it but if one team are winning comfortably, a lot of refs will tend to give decisions to the team that are losing, probably human nature to favour the team that are losing.

Look at you own photo again and you will see the defender is looking at and is trying to play the ball not attempting to trip the player. Also I would not have deemed that careless, reckless or excessive force by the defender.

I was stood next to people who I think were fairly new to Slough and they were laughing in disbelief that the ref gave what was obviously not a foul. And when you have chants from the Slough end say "You don't know what your doing" when we are given a free kick, that is a big indicator that the ref got it wrong.

In the end on this occasion the ref made up for the definite foul which he missed 30 seconds prior when Warren was tripped carelessly !!!

SJR. Just to point out to you that I have not said anything in regards to the tackle either way. All I have done is posted the rules from the FA site to show what they say.

It is you and the others who are debating what it was or was not. I am not in that debate, so my I don't need to look at my photo again as I have not made my view on it public.

Just to try and knock this bit on the head and get back to talking about the performance, it was not a fee kick, Warren lost his footing as the lad went to tackle him, and admitted by him, however it should have been a free kick seconds earlier where he was wiped up, so the ref was probably trying to even it up... But as Gary said it was given and we took advantage... We move on now to Dartford....

Neil baker the voice of sanity!!! We all knew it wasn't a foul immediately from behind the goal but we have had some obvious fouls missed in and outside of the box in recent matches so we will take it. Let's not let a trivial point take away from another excellent win and performance. My grandad came to his first game at the new ground and loved it despite not knowing the players or who we were playing (bless him) but he thought we looked excellent and had particular praise for the 'little bald chap' in midfield (I presume he meant togs!!! :)

I thought at the start of both halves [first 5-10 mins, think Gary STFC mentions this, too] we started slowly and were fortunate Leamington didn't take advantage of it. After those lapses though, I thought we were superb and controlled the game throughout and didn't give Leamington a sniff.

Mark Nisbet looked quality in the first half and played with confidence on the ball and was a calming influence to the back line. Something we have missed in big matches since the class of Dave Woozley].

A lot of sides would have buckled, losing a centre half of Nisbet's quality for the second 45 but credit to the managers and their squad resources, having the option of two good other centre halves  ie Dan Hicks and Brad Hewitt to choose from, as a replacement for Mark Nisbet.

The managers chose Dan Hicks to partner the ever reliable Guy Hollis in the 2nd half.

Brad Hewitt can count himself desperately unlucky to miss out on the night, as he's done nothing wrong to be dropped but I thought Bakes and Unders made the right call regarding Hicks coming on ,as one thing Dan isn't, is a shrinking violet, for the heat of the battle !

He also is more agile than Brad and given the tempo Leamington try to play at, I thought it was a wise choice, with also the fact that Hollis/ Hicks played so much together last season and seem to have a good understanding between them.

On the night, though, I thought 'Dobbo' was clearly our MOTM. He was into everything.

Since his stint with Harrow Borough last season, where he was playing at left back, it appears he's more willing to put himself into tackles and do more steely stuff, than he ever wanted to do when he was last here with us at Slough.

'Putts' is going to have one hell of a fight on his hands to win a regular place in the first 11, if 'Dobbo' keeps playing like this.

With Paul Stonehouse also putting in a great performance on the night and beginning to look the quality player we know he is, we sure do have some exciting options on the left side, but we don't look too shabby on the right either, do we ? ! ha ha .

Let's hope we can knock Dartford over, too. Should be a good test of our new found mettle.

Neil , this is all your fault.

Football fans have to have a scab to pick at . Normally it's about why we lost and whose fault it is/ why we drew and whose fault it was we did not win / how we won but carrying player X who is off form/no good/ filling in. But you have denied us that luxury.

The most common phrase I have heard over the last couple of weeks is ' I'm struggling to name a Man of the Match' Normally when a team is on a good run its because they have a Striker banging in a goal every game or a Keeper who looks unbeatable but usually there are passengers even in that team . Not at the moment for Slough. Every player in the SQUAD is doing their job when asked. The attitude is brilliant and its a pleasure to watch. So it's Jon and your fault I'm afraid

Good post, Stan.

To be honest, our team's games thus far, seem too good to be true !

Long may it continue, though.

However, I don't believe we will get everything our own way although I would love it if we could !

Being a Slough fan, we just know we will be brought down to earth with a bump at some point.

That said, the belief in the camp and character/team spirit of our squad is proving to be excellent,

and having a good depth in regards to choice of selection, we certainly have a good chance of achieving something significant this season.

So it will be how we respond to any setbacks we get, that will be tester for how good this season can be for our beloved team.

This being our maiden season back in Slough, you couldn't of asked for better, on how our league form has gone so far.

Be the icing on the cake, if we can get some FA Cup glory as well !

Just so you know Brad had not recovered in time from his injury, so was not dropped for the game, he was named on the bench just in case with 5 minutes we were chasing the game, thus enabling him to go and be a target man up top.... luckily we did not need to do this.

But again it shows strength in depth that by half time we had 2 centre halves injured, but still had a pairing of Guy and Hicksy!

I was wondering about Brad. Been outstanding since coming into the side, one or two of us thought he might have been dropped with the three week absence coming up.

To be fair we rarely drop someone because of a future engagement/holiday unless we feel it is essential for the team or us as managers.

However on the flip side if you do miss a game due to holiday/engagement then you may find it tough to get back in the side, and will have to remain patient, irrespective of who you are.
