The free kick we scored from was never a free kick, warren tripped over himself. However only about 30 seconds before that he had definetly been deliberately tripped and the ref missed it so it evened itself out.

This was the photo looks like he's about to have his foot taken away to me.

That photo just shows Warren slipping and not conclusive that contact is made.

Everyone behind the goal laughed when the call was given as everyone saw there was no contact and Warren fell by himself

The bloke is in a kicking motion so yes he looks like he's going to kick Warren, And it don't show conclusively that he's about to slip.

So the referee probably judged intent. Remember the dissuasion we had a couple of seasons ago when Johnny Dyer got sent off?

the intent thing only applies to bookings and red cards. If you try to trip someone and miss, it is not a foul as a foul has not been committed.

Look at you own photo again and you will see the defender is looking at and is trying to play the ball not attempting to trip the player. Also I would not have deemed that careless, reckless or excessive force by the defender.

I was stood next to people who I think were fairly new to Slough and they were laughing in disbelief that the ref gave what was obviously not a foul. And when you have chants from the Slough end say "You don't know what your doing" when we are given a free kick, that is a big indicator that the ref got it wrong.

In the end on this occasion the ref made up for the definite foul which he missed 30 seconds prior when Warren was tripped carelessly !!!

If so to kick the ball he would have to go through Warren to get it

Once again I reiterate that it is not necessary for contact to be made for the referee to adjudge violent play to have occurred and from that award a free kick or a booking. I reiterate from where I was standing it looked like an error but perhaps from where the referee was standing he did adjudge rightly or wrongly that violent conduct had occurred. The analogy I have used before is that I take a swing at someone and connect - violent conduct. The person ducks out of the way so I do not make contact - still violent conduct.
