Slough v Biggleswade

Game of Throw-ins

Recommended Posts

Ian Brown, the  Biggleswade keeper nearly played for Slough, as Steve Bateman thought he had signed him, only for him to change his mind at the last minute.

He is one of the best keepers in this division but I wouldn't swap him for Mark Scott !

If I remember rightly, Ian Brown at the time didn't have a car so the logistics of getting to games was one of the main reasons why he never joined us.

Looking at the photo of the Biggles player with his arm around Gary Gokman's legs in the penalty area looks a stonewall penalty to me.

The one with the ref looking directly at it as well. Maybe from his angle the players bodies blocked his view, but the assistant had a clean line of sight, if he was in line

With an average attendance of 601 we are tthe 5th highest across the 3 divisions of step 3.......Yes our data is skewed by the Hayes game but also in the same way it is ofset by our 3 games at SYCOB which had an average of 343 and so we could well maintain a 500-600 average this season.

I think the next 3 games could be hugely varied.....On Tuesday we have a big league game where you would expect some away fans, we start at 230 with the season tickets so I reckon we could see 500 again, for the FA Cup game we will see around 150 Dartford fans I would imagine, we don't have season tickets but its a big game so 750 ish?

Then its the league cup where we would have got maybe 150 at SYCOB.....I reckon this could be 200-250....who knows

Lee Barney's injury is a concern, but Warren Harris can push up and knows where the goal is.. and Gokmen could take the right wing slot.

It is a concern, especially with Charlie Moone not yet 100% fit.

As you say Wazza can play there but he is playing so well in his normal position out wide it would be a shame to move him.

Being a top of the table clash and our first league game under the lights I would certainly hope for more than 500.

On Saturday seeing as it's the FA Cup against a well supported Conference South team I would hope for somewhere around 1,000.

For those of you that know me , I always had a good laugh with opposition keepers and Brown was one of those. I bumped into him after the game and he was wondering why he hadn't had a chat/banter/ abuse from me, so I explained I do the commentary so he asked if I'd said that he'd made some great saves. I told him he hadn't saved a thing all game and we both had a good laugh. That's what non league is about and he is one of the good guys, shame there's not more like him

We had a good laugh with him throughout. Think I heard someone say he was a "proper non league keeper" and it true, that is what non league is about, having a laugh and enjoying the football and friendly banter.

Brown reminded me of Shane Gore and Richard Hayward former Chesham goalkeepers and a certain Jamie Jackson. All of them happy to have a chat and a laugh and also laugh at themselves now and then.

Rebel and Srj basically your posts identical to my post on the Redditch thread.

We go to watch our team win lose or draw it is a couple of hours or more having a laugh and a joke with friends players managers of both sides.

Why people pay and then abuse and swear for 90 minutes is beyond me.

We pay our money to support encourage be Entertained and Entertain having a laugh in the process.

I believe our supporters are the best and are highly respected by other clubs and there supporters.

Is there something about Chesham keepers? Recall having an extended laugh and joke with Jimmy Morris one Good Friday at Amy Lane as we both stood and watched as what was otherwise Chesham's reserve side beat Slough's first team, who had Geoff Redford sent off for good measure, 3-0 in a Memorial Shield match. Joke was on him next day though as broadly the same Slough team, this time with "bearded custodian" Lynn Evans in goal, beat their first team 2-0 in the league on the same ground. As they used to say, "Funny old game football"
