Uncle T
I heard yesterday that the league are saying something about only 20 minutes for warmup before games. Does anyone know about this?
Karen Browne
Spartan South Midlands Football League WARM UP AREA DIRECTIVE A warm up area should be provided at the discretion of the Home club. This warm up area should be fit for purpose and kept in good condition. The length of the warm up period should be no longer than 20 minutes. Only players taking part in the match and the official club management are allowed onto the warm up area. NO CHILDREN ALLOWED. The Away club must comply with any instructions issued by the Home club In the event of the pitch being in a state where a warm up may directly interfere with the playing surface, the Home club has the authority to refuse permission for a warm up on the pitch. Away clubs are therefore advised that it is not an automatic right that access to the pitch is allowed for a warm up. It is solely at the discretion of the Home club. The Away club MUST at all times comply with the instructions of the Home club and respect the facilities and condition of the playing surface. Any club reported for a breach of this directive shall face disciplinary action and a fine. Copies of this notice MUST be displayed in the Home, Away and Match Officials dressing rooms. Uncle T
Karen, thanks. Why only 20 minutes warmup? All teams in the Premier Division take longer than this to warm up. Surely the league cannot dictate a warmup length of time. Agree with all the other parts of the notice.
Karen Browne
Have no idea where they came up with the times (perhaps referees want to cut down on time wasting LOL)
Dailydose
Perhaps it should be reworded. Most teams finish their warm up with around 15 - 20 minutes prior to kick off, I have never seen a team go beyond this unless they've arrived late to a midweek fixture. Surely it's up to the trainer / coach to decided when they start the warm up? If it takes longer than 20 minutes, then the start time must be earlier. Abosolutley ridiculous! Rebadiah Hongfield
Spartan South Midlands Football League WARM UP AREA DIRECTIVE Only players taking part in the match and the official club management are allowed onto the warm up area. NO CHILDREN ALLOWED. Finally, the suits have had a meeting and had the guts to say what we've all wanted to say for a long time. Under no circumstances do we want to see kids having fun! No mascots getting involved with the teams (their heroes). No children having priceless moments with their Dads/Uncles/big brothers. I don't want children around, getting all inspired to take part and maybe one day have visions of playing in the ssml or higher. Hopefully next year they'll finally put an end to it and just ban children full stop.
Opinions Opinions 433
Perhaps the people coming up with these rules and regulations should spend some more time helping Karen with the fixtures. Only warm up I have ever seen taking 20 minutes is like dailydose said, when teams turn up late on a Tuesday night and have no choice. Also how will home clubs police this? Send a volunteer out to the away club and say "that's enough now chaps in you go"? That will work!
tringarmy
How bizarre. I can understand protecting the pitch as we've probably all seen coaches setting up shuttles which would tear up a damp pitch. Not all clubs are lucky enough to have a separate warm up area. No idea quite how it will be managed or monitored. If a player is having a late fitness test an hour before the game does the time start then? If a player is running late are they not allowed to warm up properly & then risk injury. I've been sides where some want to be out early whilst others spend an age trying to find their shin pads etc. It also reads that the home side sets all the rules. It probably won't be long before one team think they can warm up on the pitch but the away side are sent to a boggy bumpy dark bit in the field next door. I'd imagine most preparation involves 15 mins of loosening up / stretches before another 15 mins of more intense work. I imagine something has happened in early season to merit this. If any clubs want to change the rules they usually have to wait for an AGM or EGM. Not heard this being imposed at any level of football before. Backroom1
My interpretation would be that teams are only entitled to use a suitably prepared area for a warm up, for 20 minutes. However, if they chose to gather in an unprepared area and have a stretch and jog this would be acceptable? Furthermore, if the home team is happy to allow the away team to use a prepared area (pitch or otherwise) for as long as they want...then this is fine. I cannot believe that the committee is dictating that a team is only allowed to warm up for 20 minutes. If so...dreadful precedent to set. What happens if Hadley make it through to the FA Cup 1st round and are hosting Sheffield United? Would they have to advise Sheffield United that they can only warm up on the pitch for 20 minutes? Backroom1
Also...as someone who works in contract law, the use of the word 'should' when stating the warm up should be no longer than 20 minutes leaves this completely open to interpretation....so I have answered my own question. So basically...carry on as you were. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Dailydose
Proof reading at its best ?. I'm still struggling with why this is actually a directive. Surely the officials just need to make everyone aware that they will knock 5 minutes prior to kick off or earlier.
NeutralFan
I'd still run straight onto main pitch to check what studs I need and then try and hit the cross bar from 45 yards...

Me too NF. And then I'd scan the pitch for kids and if I saw any, I'd push them so far off the pitch, they'd wish they'd never been born.
