We Are Top Of The League, Say We Are Top Of The League......!

Brilliant win tonight. Well done all involved !

The night is made even better with Chesham 'super stars' losing 1-0 to Hayes.

Chesham were very poor, I went along as couldn't make Weymouth. Hayes stuck at it and just about deserved the win.

Agree Glover, as I went to watch, too.

I'm hoping that this season Slough finally end the 'Chesham hoodoo'.

Sounds like Charlie Mpi put in a super sub appearance, like he used to do for Steve Bateman's Slough.

Pity we haven't got him for longer.

Although its only a bit of fun Footballwebpages do produce a prediction league based on an algorithm and results so far Their current prediction for champions? Slough Town and not remotely close As I said days ago the result I expected given that Weymouth are struggling especially at home 9 games played 9 goals scored only 1 team in the league has scored fewer and to think that this fixture last year produced a 6-1 scoreline to Weymouth How things have changed!

Does last seasons 3-0 battering against Chesham not count?

It might be a bit of fun but it's far too early for any nonsense like that.

Weymouth are not doing so well at the moment only because they are struggling to find the net.

Apparently they played some good stuff tonight without the finish to go with it. Once they start putting their chances away they will again be a force to be reckoned with.

.......but that wasn't a league match, that was in a league cup match.

Yes it was good to beat them for once but it wasn't in the main games that matter.

I want us to beat them home and away and finish above them in the table.

So for once we have the bragging rights over them, as for too long they've had the upper hand on us.

Going to take a hell of a lot to do that but not impossible.

Much rather have that as a problem though Glen.

What a couple of games and results. Having seen the squads for both games i would have snapped your hand off for 2 points, but to come away with 6 points and 2 clean sheets has to be a testiment to the players and managers that have performed so well and worked so hard to get us where we are.

Still very early days yet, but im sure if they werent already, those 2 results will have made the league sit up and take note. Now with being the league leaders, having the new stadium and hopefully some big crowds, every team will be gunning for us, but as i said, much rather have that as an issue as opposed to being low down the league and struggling.

With the players missing from the squad hopefully back over the next week or so things are very much on the up and up.

ReadingRebel You are right of course the failing teams perceived to be "top teams "have to react and they will probably be bringing in new players as a matter of urgency Weymouth is just up the road for me and I was there last night and again you are right Weymouth played with a sense of urgency especially early on and played some attractive passing football very easy on the eye for their supporters Did I ever think we would get nothing from the game? Absolutely not! Our defence was well organized determined and "robust " when necessary Only thing I missed seeing clearly was Weymouths penalty shout Anyone else who was there like to comment on that?

With the glory comes the 'pressure' of being top, hopefully the lads will deal with.

As a start to a league campaign, we couldn't of asked for anything better than how our team is performing but I don't think the team/management need to put any pressure on themselves yet, as we won't win the league in the first ten games !

Also why should Slough feel pressurized, when from a betting standpoint they are a team viewed as outsiders for the title.

We've just got to keep the players grounded and focussed on every game that comes, as there are so many bigger battles to come, if we are to do a ' Leicester' !

Our squad is the best we've had for years, in terms of the depth we have in the squad and the competition for places in every position. Credit to the management for that.

Let's hope we take our current league form into the FA Cup.

One thing I should have added on my reply last night was that ' Chesham were poor by their standards' , which is a big difference.

Mostly Chesham have better players than Hayes [ apart from 1 or 2] but it was obvious last night, that too many Chesham players didn't seemed up for the fight, whereas Hayes were determined throughout not to get beat.

I think Hayes were fortunate to get the first goal, as Chesham had the better of the opening exchanges but the goal Hayes scored, rocked them. Had Chesham scored first, the game would have taken on a whole different complexion.

Anyway let's not worry about bloody Chesham, or Hayes and Yeading FC for that matter, let's focus on what was good in Slough's performance last night.

Who was Man Of The Match for us?

Fantastic win for us last night and one which we had to dig in and work for. Weymouth had good spells of pressure, but we did well to deny them many, if any, real clear cut chances. We defended very well as a unit, but I thought Brad Hewitt in particular was outstanding. I always thought we might nick the match and we did with another goal from Wazza who looks back to his best from a few seasons ago before the ACL injury. We might have made it 2 a couple of minutes later when Charlie Mpi couldn't quite fully connect with an excellent ball from Gary Gokmen at the end of a wonderful counter attacking move.

These are the sort of results and performances you need to be champions. COYR!
