Ash Trees 5 Kiddy 1

An emphatic win in the end, but it needed a penalty save to turn the tide of the game.

We started brightly but Kidlington pushed forward and kept us on the back foot for a good few minutes. We had two efforts cleared off the line and an awful miss with a free header from a corner, but took the lead in the 26th minute when a Bitz free kick 30 yards out and on the left wing evaded everyone and bounced into the net.

Kiddy equalised three minutes later when they latched onto an overly forceful headed pass and Lewis Coyle neatly finished the move off. Kiddy deserved to go in at half time at least on level terms, but Fleminho hit a low effort from the edge of the box in stoppage time which stretching keeper Bojan Tetek pushed onto the post and in to get us back in front. Kiddy weren't overly happy as play had been allowed to continue with Ravin Shamsi prone close to the halfway line following a tackle, and he took no further part in the game.

The game’s pivotal moment happened in the 55th minute when Kiddy were awarded a penalty following a daft trip in the box. Lewis Brownhill’s spot kick was low and too close to the middle of the goal, but Kav the keeper still had to get his body shape right to stop it, and stop it he did. From then on Kiddy lost morale and we took advantage with relish.

A fine move down the left wing in the 68th saw Kam whip in a hard low cross which the unfortunate Chris Weedon bulleted into the roof of his own net. Kam then finished off some fine solo work by walloping home a hard shot low into the opposite corner from 15 yards out in the 73rd minute for 4-1.

The game had been strangely niggly, with lots of trips and a couple of clatters on a greasy surface not helped by the hard drizzle, but referee Gill controlled the game excellently, helped by his ‘linos’ Costache and Smith, more often that not booking players when necessary and being pretty consistent with his decisions throughout the match.

Kiddy may not agree, though, after goalscorer Coyle got a straight red in the 84th. Whether it was for an elbow to the face in an aerial challenge or for something he said to the ref afterwards, the astonished Kiddy number 7 got a straight red. Believe it or not, that’s already the second time this season I’ve seen a team manage the horror hat-trick of a missed pen, an OG and an ‘off’ in the second half (I saw Sheppey United achieve it in an FA Cup tie).

There was still enough time for sub Max Herbert to leather another hard and low shot into the opposite corner in the 89th minute for 5-1. There was no way you could have predicted that scoreline going into first half stoppage time. I’ll take it, though!

Whatever Ben put in the tea at halftime worked wonders, I'll be drinking that brand of tea in the future. On the other hand if I drank a gallon the only difference to me would be too many visits to the loooooooo.

So a pint after the game sufficed.

The red was for an blatant elbow.

A stuttering first half but we gradually got our game going and got into our stride in the second half.

Haven't heard a team cry "Ref" so often for a long while. The quite pathetic number 3 was the main culprit. If he concentrated more on his own game, instead of berating the linesman for every decision, he might stop forwards walking past him!

I thought Kam had an excellent second half and also Roma had another solid game. Can't argue with "The General" winning Man of the match again though.....

Disappointing attendance!

I challenge all the " Bus stop" gang to bring a friend to the next game!

Let's Fill the Stand!!! Up the Tangerines!

"Bus Stop"??? How very dare you! It's the Tangerine Terrace!

(The lovely little stand it replaced was very much like a bus shelter, though!)

PS - If you feel that way about the stand's name and spectators, you could always play "Do the Bus Stop" by The Fatback Band over the tannoy!    :D

PPS - To cover the club's other nickname you could play anything by Ash and "The Trees / Sunrise" by Pulp"!

Swifty - As my knowledge of music doesn't extend to anything more recent than 50 years ago, it has to be " Bus Stop" by the Hollies.

A strange game as we won 5-1 without playing at our best. I thought that the KIddies 7, who was eventually sent off, was the best player on the pitch. Fortunately his team mates were not at the same standard. We played well in patches, Bitz, Scott, Dan and Kam were the pick of our team and Kaz did well to save the penalty ( and his kicking was excellent)

The attendance was very disappointing as we are now well known for playing attractive football.
