Cirencester away

Another good performance today with every player fighting hard for the deserved win.

Gavin James has now got his goals to kickstart his season. Lee Togwell started the game ahead of Nathan Webb and was superb, he looked at home straight away and combined well with Dunn and protected the back four well. Neil and Jon are going to have tough choices this season as to which of the three centre miss they leave on the bench each match.

We started strongly and got the early goal, the game then evened out with Cirencester having a few shots but not troubling Scott in goal. Mid way through the first half we took control and played the great passing football we know we can to open up Cirencester. Unfortunately we couldn't make the most of it plus one great save kept it to 1-0 at half time. Cirencesters equaliser came as Stonehouse played the ball back to Scott under pressure but the pass fell short and Griffin got a toe to the ball ahead of Scott, who did his best, and calmly put it in the empty net. Slough responded immediately with Putman putting us 2-1 up and later Gavin James got the third to wrap up the game.

The referee was atrocious today for both teams and doing commentary was a nightmare, trying to figure out what decision he had made and why as well as how he could miss the most obvious fouls.

We move up to 2nd and although it is still very early and arguably we haven't played the best teams in the league but the season looks bright.

Also as well as the expected 3 points on Monday there is another challenge for the lads Weymouths goal at Chesham today leaves us as the only team in the division that has not conceded a goal at home Lets see how long fortress Arbour can maintain that record

Irish, I'm sure most people, including our managers and players will not be expecting 3 points on Monday.

It's a big game with a big crowd and with it will come some big pressure especially for us the home team.

H&Y may not have had a great start to the season but you can be damn sure they will be coming to spoil the party.

I'm sure if they read any comments like 'expected 3 points' there will be not be a greater incentive for them to turn up on the day and take the points.

I thought we played some excellent stuff today and were the dominant team for most of the game.

We should have gone in at half time at least a couple of goals in front but had to settle for the one which was well taken by Gavin James.

We started the second half on the front foot and then proceeded to gift Cirencester a goal with a short back pass from Stoney.

We then went 2-1 up with an excellent goal from Putts and followed that up with another goal from Gavin James after some excellent work out wide from Wazza.

Couldn't fault anyone today as all the players played their part in very good team performance.

For me Warren Harris had his best game to date and was my MOTM.

Some slight injury worries over Lewis Putman and Guy Hollis but hopefully they aren't too bad and they will be fit for Monday.

"Weak side"? Not sure about that, time will tell of course and you can only beat what's in front of you. We played them off the park at times, especially that 5 - 10 minute sequence before their goal when they could barely get a kick and it seemed the 2nd goal for us was inevitable. There's a short report on their site that accurately reflects the match.

Poole did the same to us in our first season in the Premier and I wouldn't say we were weak side at the time, especially coming off the back of a 3-0 win against Weymouth the week before!

Looking on the positive side, perhaps we made them look a weak team?

Surely they weren't as weak as St Ives turned out to be. Cirencester have been a decent outfit in the last couple of seasons.

Talking to one of there supporters he was saying they lay on a free bus service from the town centre and still cannot fill it.

Kirk you say a weak side we gave them a couple of chances early on which they did not take and we could of been punished after missing a number of good chances and once the equalised there tails were up but in the end our quality came to the for.

Last year we won with ease 3 nil and then they beat Poole in there next game.

Must admit I could not believe that result after what I saw a few days earlier.

It just shows that a bit of extra quality is the difference in pulling the top teams through over a season.

I shouldn't take much notice of Mr Negative.

As far as he's concerned most of the teams we've played so far have been poor teams, St Neots for example, perhaps they were just a poor team when they played us.

I know that this division has some very good teams in it and to get promoted, reach the play offs or just to get in the top half of the table takes some doing.

Our team has done very well so far but as we both know there's a long way to go in a season in the Southern Premier division.

It's great that we've got points in the bag so early, which keeps us in good stead but I do think we will have tougher encounters to come.

Sitting in second place is good for all concerned, lets hope we're in first place come Monday at 5pm !

Perhaps those other teams that are "tougher" will start to look at us as a strong side in the league this season? We will of course have tough games to come as i dont think there is an easy game in the league regardless of who you play (there certainly isnt a Burnham LOL).

As a side we just need to keep the level of quality and performance we have started the season with going game in and game out. We have a good squad this season and certainly the best of the 3 seasons we have started in the Southern Prem. Time will tell if we can maintain this level of performance and result, but i dont see any reason at all to be anything but up beat on the showing so far.

What is also pleasing this season is that the substitute bench is full and that our squad has depth/talent to it.
