v Kings Langley

Having been born in Slough and watched the rebels for over 50 years I did not think that a small village I moved to over 30 years ago would ever be playing in the same league as Slough.

I watched the Kings Langley game last night and Dunstable won the game 1-0 with a clear penalty in he first half. The Dunstable side included Jai Dhillon, Dunstable are a very tall and physical side this year.

Kings Langley are a very workmanlike side shutting opponents down quickly and playing the ball forward fast, They also try to keep the game moving and catching Dunstable out by taking goal kicks and free kicks very fast, The two full backs like attacking. particularly the nr 3 Adebyiyi who is quite tall for a full back. Our old friend Kyle Anthony played at 6 alongside the captain Stuart Deaton at nr 5. Deaton is a tall aggressive nr 5 who seems to get everything in he air.

The pitch was a bit dry and bumpy ie like Beaconsfield and Dunstable clearly were the better team in the first half. However KL made a few changes at Half Time including the club captain Gary Connolly who played in midfield and he began to control the game. KL hit the bar in the 2nd half and forced the Dunstable keeper into 2-3 good saves.. The KL keeper did not have much to do.Their nr 11 Josh Chamberlain who came from Berhamstead took most  of the dead ball kicks and also has a reasonable long throw. I watched KL once or twice last year as well and they are a very fit side and tend to come on strong in the 2 nd half.

To compare teams on Saturday the KL team tonight was:-

1 Xavi Comas 2. Emmanel Folarin 3 CallumAdebayi 4 Dean Hitchcock( replaced by Jack Waldren. 5 Stuart Deaton 6 Kyle Anthony 7 Ollie Cox ( replaced by Gary Connolly) 8 Ryan Plowright 9 Sean Coughlan ( replaced by Lewis Toomey) 10 Conor Twomey 11 Josh Chamberlain

The facilities at the club are very limited and are still the standard of a village team, although they are making improvement and have a deadline of March 2017 to complete these. Tne car park holds about 50 cars and was colsed as full 20 mins before the kick off. Most other vehicles park on the grass verges along the road. There are no side streets near the ground. Toliet facilities are in a small portacabin and the clubhouse is also quite small I would a  say about  a 5th of the size of Beaconsfield with only 6 tables. If you want a beer or anything from the snack bar go before the half time rush.

The beer on tap is John Smiths or Tetley

Directions;- exit the M25 at Junction 20 signposted as Aylesbury/ Hemel Hempstead. Keep to the right on the two lane slip road and exit onto the A4251 signposted Kings Langley.continue over a roundabout into the village, The first pub is the rose and crown on the left hand side further along this road on the right hand side is the Saracens Head. There are two good coffee shops Fred and Ginger and Dallings if any one wants to spend a bit of time in the village.

Continue through the village and there is a fish and chip shop on the left just as you come out of the village. Further along this road on the left is a premier inn and Toby Restaurant that has a good sized decking and plenty of parking.

The ground is approx. 400 yards past ten Premier Inn on the right.

Just past the ground ( a 4 minute walk) is a good coffee shop " inspired) which is open until 3.30 on Saturdays. Further along this road just past the Texaco garage on the right is  the Red Lion. They always have three cask ales on. At the moment they have Golden Ale XPA from Caledonian, Red Lion Ale and Robinsons Blond Ale. Jst by chance they also have a mini beer festival this weekend with 10 cask ales on. They have a very large garden. There is also a BBQ and reasonably priced food and is approx. 7 mins walk rom the Ground or 2 mins by car. Alan Harding has some leaflets and he will hand these out on the coach.

For those travelling by Train KL railway staion is approx. 3 miles away and to get to the grond you will need a txa

If anyone requires  a lift from the railway station ie Stuntsman Mark, please contact me on my mobile 07902 164953. I am 2 mins away from the station and 3 mins away from the Red Lion, in the opposite direction. I can manage 4 each trip. NB do not call after  2.00 pm I will also be in the pub by then.

Banny,,Dave Carpenter,Ollie , Alan - I am afraid that the previously mentioned burgers etc at mine are now transferred to the red lion.

Lets hope we have a good day and come away with 3 points COYR.

Odds:-

Kings Langley 15/13

Slough 15/8

Draw 11/4

Other interesting odds:-

Leamington to win at Hayes 9/5

Redditch to win at Weymouth (who lost 4-1 at home to Chippenham on Tues) 15/8

Also interesting that a newly promoted team with one point on the board are the favourites to turn us over!

Putman and Nisbet not fully recovered yet.... as I said above though, after Tuesday's performance I'm not sure either would have automatically been straight back in the starting line-up.

If whoever our front two are continue to develop an understanding and finish just a couple of the good chances that will come there way, our defence looks strong enough to me to ensure a win.

I won't be able to make this match.. but best of luck, I will have to make do with Twitter updates.
