v St Neots

Recommended Posts

Hopefully it will be a better game than last years opener against Frome which was the definition of a bore draw.

It will also be interesting how many people turn up tomorrow as I know a lot of people are fed up of going to Beaconsfield and can't wait to come back to Slough for home games.

I should imagine most of the season ticket holders (200 +) are regulars so why wouldn't they turn up for the next few games at Beaconsfield?

Lee Kearns is stepping down as chairman on 30th September Imo their current squad is weaker than last seasons almost relegated one and the bookies dont fancy them at 33-1 also their pre season was poor I reckon Neil/Jon are on course for their first opening day victory.

Uh Oh, that's put the kybosh on it   :(

Not sure how you can say that Irish, just because you might not recognise a lot of their players names doesn't mean that they are a worse team than last year, besides at 50/1 the bookies think we are a worse team than St Neots.

Unlike the Frome game, the St Neots manager has promised that his team, just like in pre-season, will play the game 'on the front foot' so I expect an exciting game with plenty of goals.

Reading Rebel I think the most interesting info in the St Neots managers statement in the Hunts Post is the fact that a number of the team will be playing their first ever competitive game for St Neots and more significantly their first ever game at this level Id rather be us than them.

Would not be our first, as we beat Burnham 2-0 first season in the Southern Premier

What an enjoyable game! Motm for me was warren Harris! Although i can't single out any player for playing bad cause I don't think anyone did. Also hearing that number 5 bite Charlie moone not acceptable and certainly warranted a red card. That aside a great opener

Lovely sunshine, two goals, a clean sheet and three points. You can't ask for much more than that.

St Neots were not as good as I expected but at the same time we played well with no player having a bad game. We started brightly and took a deserved lead after a good firm header from Moone after finding himself unmarked in the box. Throughout the first half I think we were the better team even when 11 vs 11. The St Neots sending off was just stupid by their player, Moone was clearly fouled and for some reason the number 5 decided to get in his face and push his head forward into Moone's, the ref had no choice but to send him off. I didn't see a bite but if there was one then that is disgraceful and hopefully the referee reports it.

Second half we looked very comfortable and never really need to push to guarantee the win. The second goal came from good work between Dobson and Stonehouse down the left before Stonehouse forced his way through to put in a low cross to Harris who calmly slotted the ball into the net.

MotM for me was Fraser though wouldn't be surprised to hear others mention 6 or 7 other players. Every player looked good an up for the game today.

Almost perfect day, sun, beer and football.

Sweetened further by the fact we played well and easily deserved the victory.

The sending off just ensured the second half was easy, though it's their own fault.

My only concern is that dobbo in my opinion isn't on the same level as the rest of the team, barring one decent corner he didn't perform for me. I hope lewis gets back soon.

Yes an excellent start albeit against a poor St Neots side Everyone put in a shift and I wouldnt try to pick a MOM Opening day home win nil conceded and 3 points (2 more than the same fixture last year) That'll do. Some unexpected results elsewhere Basingstoke and H&Y both beaten Hitchin were 0-3 down to Cinderford and won 4-3 with a late penalty

I was quite close to the incident and thought I saw the St Neots number 5 throw a punch and connect on Charlie's face. So for me a definite red.

I actually thought Dobbo had a good game. Overall some of his crosses from corners etc lacked consistency (the cross for Charlie's goal was a beauty) but his effort/work-rate was spot on so overall I thought he played well.
