v St Neots

How are any of you having charlie moone in your starting line up!?!? For me it is an easy Gavin James and Lee Barney starting up front. Charlie just hasn't got it. I don't care if he scored 40 league goals 3 years ago. He hasn't had one good game in pre season and has looked WELL off the pace. It's amazing how players can have one good season these days and live off it for the rest of their non league career. He has had absolutely nothing about him. Just because he had an interview in the non league paper and is classed as a big name in non league is the reason he will be starting. The managers will bottle it.

IMO pre season for Charlie Moone has been all about getting himself fit and sharp.

I think his work rate in pre season has been exceptional with 3 goals to boot.

Play to his strengths and he will score a lot of goals for us.

I was just trying to take a look at the St Neots squad, and comparing to the side they put out against us for the 0-0 in March.

It looks like they have had a lot of changes, with probably only three of the starting 11 in March likely to play.... Archer in goal, Ward in defence, and Clarke in midfield. They also appear to have a lot of young players in their squad, with 8 of their 20 player squad being between the ages of 17 and 21.

It's difficult for me to make a definitive judgement, but it looks like there have been significant changes at St Neots, and they don't appear to have strengthened what they had last season.

What are others opinions? What St Neots players should we watch out for? Have our Managers had an opportunity to take a look at them during pre-season?

The answer to that is neither myself have been able to see them personally, but spoken to a few managers regarding them, they have a very good tie up with Stevenage in that one of the Joint Managers is involved in the academy there.

They have some decent players, and in Ogbonna (ex St Ives and Kettering) and Hall (scored a hat trick for Cambridge against us last season) they have two strikers who know where the back of the net is.

First games of the season are usually relatively edgy games from my experience, and we know we will be in for a tough game, however hope to get out of the blocks quick.

Considering they almost got relegated last season I'm not surprised they've got a vastly different squad.

They've splashed the money in the past on so called 'big players' and it failed miserably.

Mike Kearn's son now runs the club, no doubt with his Dad still funding the club in one way or another, and they've also got a new Chairman on board.

They've now brought in younger, hungrier players, with a few old heads so I expect it to be a very stern test for our first game.

You're entitled to your opinion but I am bewildered by your comments here. What game do you watch? !

Charlie Moone is a class act and should be one of the first names on the team sheet. As for pre season, he' s got sharper with every game. At the Harrow game he was among our best players and every bit the top striker, I and many other Slough fans know he is.

RebelJoe1971, are you for real?

Lee Kearns is stepping down as chairman on 30th September Imo their current squad is weaker than last seasons almost relegated one and the bookies dont fancy them at 33-1 also their pre season was poor I reckon Neil/Jon are on course for their first opening day victory.

Hopefully it will be a better game than last years opener against Frome which was the definition of a bore draw.

It will also be interesting how many people turn up tomorrow as I know a lot of people are fed up of going to Beaconsfield and can't wait to come back to Slough for home games.

While I hope you are right about the win, Irishadrian, you can never take anything for granted.

Opening day fixtures do have a habit of bringing unexpected results. Let's just say we're both pleasantly optimistic !

SrJ if the cheetah in stead of shooting had passed to Puts who was waiting to put the ball in an empty net it would of been 3 points and not a bore draw.
