Finished Slough 2-1 Fleet, goals from Barney and Togwell.

Fleet scored in the opening minutes (I missed it) and apparently it was very poor defending from us. Someone who saw it can describe it better than me.

In the first half other than on two occasions when we played simple passes and kept the ball we were very poor though Barney should have equalised when one on one. Harrison Gilkes picked up what looked to be a bad injury late when coming off second best in a tackle which looked a little high from where I was on the opposite side of the pitch, however, even from there you could hear him shout in pain. Hopefully it isn't as bad as it first looks and he will be ready to play some part in the early season.

Second half wasn't much better from us though we did get ourselves back in the game and then take the lead to win the game 2-1. Barney scored the first with a similar opportunity as he had in the first half when through one on one but this time scoring. The second goal came from a fine strike by Togwell from 25 yards when the ball seemed to be getting stuck under his feet.

The pitch at Fleet has a pretty big slope on it from one end to the other. Fleet were not exactly strong themselves today and didn't cause us too many problems, if any thing we caused ourselves more problems than Fleet caused us themselves.

Started slowly and conceded a sloppy early goal where a Fleet player in the right hand corner was allowed the freedom to cross the ball into the box, we then failed to deal with the cross and we were 1-0 down. The rest of the first half we were the better team without the final ball to go with some good approach play.

We were a bit more incisive in the second half and two well taken goals from Barney and Togwell sealed a hard fought win against a competent Fleet side.

Not at our best today but credit to the players for grinding out the win.

1st look at new look side for pre season, I was half happy and half disappointed, I have to say the pitch was very sloped but looked in find quality so that was good and also thought fleet looked a very decent side who played decent football at times so was a good game to play I felt.

I thought a few had poor games and a few shone, didn't think Webb player particularly well and Togwell looked the better player. Out wide we disappointed I thought with all players except gilkes early on. Have to say the injury is unfortunate and a blow, happened right in front of me and by no means a bad tackle, more of a clipped heel and then he fell on top of his knee bent wrong way. Not good.

Up front I didn't think we created massive amount but maybe credit fleet for that as they defended well with a 3 at the back it seemed and broke well on us.

As has been said results don't mean a massive amount in pre season but nice winning and I have to say I enjoyed the afternoon and felt semi positive after, dunno what others felt.

Hope the barbecue's going well and the beer's a flowing !

Gutted for Harrison Gilkes and Bakes and Unders, if his injury turns out to be as bad as it looked, all three will need to have liquid lubrication !

I'm sick as a parrot, too, as he's such an important player for us this season. He is top draw and we will miss him big time if he's out for any amount of time.

Slough never have it easy.

.........but heigh ho, that's life, we have enough talent in the squad to make things better.

It wasn't all doom and gloom today, we have a number of players who aren't the type to roll over and die when the real games begin.

So you have to be optimistic and positive, don't you? !

Come On You Rebels !

Missed game due to prior engagement at Wembley 66 Live, however, afterwards spotted Super Kev at SSE Arena in his Slough kit. Must have wings to have got there in time from Fleet!!

I thought Lee Togwell did well and scored a very good goal.

Have to say I thought we missed the composure and bit of class that Simon Dunn adds to our midfield.

On the Gilkes incident, from the other side of the pitch my initial thought was that it was a cynical tackle from behind.

Having looked at HR's pics it's clearly shown that the Fleet players leg has gone through the middle of Gilkes's legs in an attempt to get the ball, so IMO no blame can be put onto the Fleet player.

Unfortunately what happened to Gilkesy yesterday is precisely the reason why those sort of challenges have been banned.

Your point is ER?

Some are saying it's a fair tackle NO it wasn't it was late and through the back (sideish)..

The ball was a yard or more gone towards the 2, then the follow through was a scissor on Gilkes standing leg (his right leg)

Hence the 2D effect of a picture.

It certainly was not a legal tackle as it was from behind and to get the ball the player had to make contact with Gilksy.

As said previously those sort of tackles these days are now banned as they are deemed as dangerous, the result of which Gilksy could be out for some time.

I can only go by the photo and it does look as if the Fleet player has tried to get the ball so for me there was no malice from the Fleet player.

And as I said it's an optical illusion the ball was gone when he went in.

Optical illusion or not, it was right in front of me and was a nip at the heel type one which tripped gilkes and weight landed on top , certainly wasn't malicious with any intent to hurt from what I could see. It's very unfortunate though as he looked our best player up to then.
