staines_rebel_Jr
Salisbury vs Dorchester looks like the biggest match of the first round.
Curtis
Probably a stupid question but why are there only 64 clubs in the draw when there are 68 clubs in the Southern League? Have some clubs not entered or don't qualify?
staines_rebel_Jr
Probably because it is much easier to have a competition of 64 teams than 68 64-32-16-8-4-2-
staines_rebel_Jr
As far as I can see; Chippenham, Hereford, Mangotsfield and Marlow are not in the competition.
GlenSTFC
True but how do they decide who the 4 clubs are who don't enter? Although saying that there's probably a queue of clubs asking to be left out!
Stuntman Mark
Marlow pulled out. I think clubs basically lose money from being in it and it works out cheaper to pull out. It really does need a rethink or even scrapping altogether.
Reading Rebel
The league cup only gets interesting to supporters when you reach the semi final or final. Perhaps if they had some prize money on offer it would be more popular. One positive about the league cup is that it gives clubs a chance to play their fringe players. staines_rebel_Jr
Hereford also pulled out.
GlenSTFC
Isn't there a rule that you have to play so many first team players? Yes it's a pretty pointless competition that has no real meaning for anyone. All clubs are interested in is the league and two FA completions. League and county cups just add headaches! David Carpenter
Looking at the draw a large number of the ties seem to be local or near local derbies.
GlenSTFC
And I bet there will be plenty of double figure crowds! As said until you get to the semi's there's no fan interest and I'm sure most managers would prefer not to compete in it. Obviously the advantage is you can try out youngsters, trialists and players returning from injury.

My thoughts exactly.... is there a reason why we enter this competition? I haven't seen us take it particularly serious over the last couple of seasons. Who have we been knocked out by? Is it Potters Bar and Burnham?

I think we do take it seriously but with the objective of giving fringe players and players coming back from injury game time.
epicrebel
You have to pay to pull out.
GlenSTFC
Be interested to know the penalty as I can't imagine it'll be more than the losses you could encounter for each game.
Reading Rebel
You have to pay to pull out. I could well be wrong but I thought they stopped fining clubs for pulling out?
