Training Games

Recommended Posts

Both of our training games in the next week are at Langley Academy (formerly Langley wood) who have a fairly new 3G pitch.

The 3G pitch was completed late November / early October 2015 and as far as I can tell will be the same quality as the one in our new ground, so will be good to see up close what it is like and how it plays.

The pitch has a metal fencing around it similar to the one at Hayes and Yeading in last years pre season friendly, so I would assume like that game we will only be allowed to be on the outside.

If these are 'training games' what format will they take i.e. will they be a full game of 45 minutes each half or something different?

Also, if they are training games does that mean that they will not be played like a proper game of football i.e. to win?

It's 3 periods of 30 mins tomorrow night. We'll be taking it very seriously, as we do with every friendly and every pre-season training session but given the venue (an enclosed pitch) we didn't want to position it as a normal 'friendly' as such and weren't expecting supporters to attend.

A good example of what we mean by training games, is we will at points be trying players in different positions, in the Godalming game for example, one or two of our players will also play for them.

However you may also notice is at the 3g there are two metal wires across the pitch (where they normally section of the pitch by a third) and therefore might be occasions when the ball hits it and changes the direction of the ball etc.

The pitch is similar to what we will be using, however I understand that the grass on our pitch is 10mm shorter.

In terms of tonight we will be without Nathan Webb who is away for the next week, Lee Togwell away for next 2 weeks (his missus is a school teacher) and Guy Hollis for personal reasons, also Gurkan Gokmen is still away in Turkey as his gran was taken ill, and is out there helping look after her.

Also in terms of watching the game, see no reason why you cant come into the enclosure and stand on the outside against the fence, so you are not watching through gaps.

Difficult to form strong opinions after a training game like this--in principle it is clear that the managers still have work to do but this may be because the players don't all know each other yet, let alone specific strengths and weaknesses. Bright spots for new among the new lads were Gavin James when he came on---lots of effort and hard running, and Joel Jackman who looked a good enough full back to provide competition for Stoney.

Disappointing that Bracknell  seemed to pass the ball more accurately than us, finding their men well and quickly, although it should be said that some of their tackling was a bit ferocious for a friendly.

Good to see Searsy getting some game time, and actually looking pretty good....could still be areal asset from the bench

I thought Joel Jackman was a right back? either way it's good to have competition in all areas.
