PSF v Didcot

Recommended Posts

well the score line does not quite tell a true story, was a good work out for us in our 4th session, found ourselves two down after 8 minutes, one a free kick that was struck well, but fairly central and would have expected Sam to get closer to it, second being a penalty after a bit of indecision between Sam and Guy.

Up to then we were keeping the ball well, and moving them about, got one back from a Charlie Moone finish, though I would say maybe an element of offside.

We controlled the rest of the half though they could have gone in 3-1 as again slight hesitation gave them a chance that Sean cleared off the line.

Second half we made a number of chances and we actually created a lot more second half and with better finishing would have been comfortably in the game, the third was a pretty good finish, though think the lad got to much time to turn, and wasn't convinced the pace off the shot should have beaten Warro.

4th is another penalty, when ref very harshly gave against Warro.

Plenty of positives with the ball retention, some good fitness levels from the ones who played 90 and the chances that we created and no injuries, negative the score line and the way we conceded 2/3 of the goals.

All in all a good friendly, and will help us as we get to know each other and learn each other's games.

didcot obviously have a stable team where we are still deciding ours, they are a good team. It's hard to say postive players when I barely know any names. Moone and Gavin looked great today. Shame about 2nd penalty. Dobbo looked lively again

Be interested to hear from anyone actually there how it went?

Well to be honest you never missed a lot. While pre season games don't tell us a lot and not knowing half the names it's hard to make a judgement. But to be fair I was hoping for a stronger defensive showing.

Was a weird start, poor keeping cost us both goals but apart from that we held the ball well and attacked with purpose.

Wholesale changes for second half, and I thought the way we played changed. We still carried a threat and looked dangerous and could have bagged a few.

Nathan and 6 (togwell?) I thought had good games, as did Sean as captain.

No negatives from me other than both keepers I thought were poor.

Will take time to gel, but we had pace and skill which was pleasing to see.

Looking forward to next game.

The ref missed a few shirt pulls by Didcot players, and also a horrible rake down the back of  Gavin James's leg as well.

(All in the photos)

For a first game there were a lot of good positives and a few things that the managers would want to work on.

We ran at them in the first half, and after a few minutes the players started to get to know each others runs, etc. and we started to dominate possession.

The second half was a different game where Didcot had more of the ball, but it was still a 50/50 half

As Mark44 has said, this was a more meaningful opener for us, and apart from a few mistakes, there is a good sense of team spirit, and they are getting to know each others games quite quickly.

Oh, and Gavin has really got some pace as well.

Their goals can be attributed to our errors and one very poor refereeing decision. Aside from that I thought there were creditable performances from Nathan Webb & Lee Togwell, the former putting in the full 90 minutes along with Sean Fraser.  With more luck and perhaps sharpness we'd have had a few goals. Our goal was scored by Charlie Moone in the first half.

First game after one week of training sessions so plenty of positives despite the scoreline.

Lee Togwell came off about half way into the second half for Mark Nisbet who came off at H/T
