Best Year For Gigs

Recommended Posts

2003 has been my best year gig-wise, certainly since 1995.

Kicked off the year seeing the Polyphonic Spree at Kentish Town Forum, which was an experience, believe me!

Saw two of my favourite early-90's bands who'd both reformed - Inspiral Carpets (Brixton) and Mock Turtles (LA2).

Went to Brixton Academy again a couple of weeks back to see The Darkness who rocked, and in September saw Spiritualized in the Electric Ballroom.

Witnessed the superb Siobhan Donaghy in a venue so small, I was able to rest my pint on the front of the stage where she was performing.

Went to Knebworth, primarily for the Darkness and Ash, although Robbie Williams put on an impressive performance also. Kelly Osbourne better forgotten!!

Best of all though, has to be Paul McCartney at Earls Court. Faultless.

Two regrets? - not going to Glastonbury, and failing to get hold of Duran tickets for the Kentish Town Forum.

1. REM - Glasto

One of the best atmospheres and performances I have witnessed at Glasto, a very special show.

2. Radiohead - Earls Court

Always going to get a mention, they have actually started smiling, getting the cloud to clap along and enjoying their gigs. Tracks like 'Lucky' live still make the hair on the back of my neck stand up, even on the 5th time of asking.

3. Paul McCartney - Earls Court

A great gig, best singalong gig you're ever going to go to.

4. David Bowie - Wembley

It's nice when you go to an oldies gig and see they've still got it, see above.

5. I am Kloot - Birmingham Academy

The nicest intimate gig of the year, I know I go on about them but they need to be seen live.

Only regret, missing the blur concert, I should have made the effort on that one.

I haven't been to many gigs this year so I'm gonna include last year as well! Saw the Libertines, went to two Readings and and saw some top bands, but above all was the George Harrison gig. Not the BEST gig I've been to, given that a lot of the people I didn't know, but the most emotional gig I've been to. Brilliant performances by Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and George's son and a brilliant way to remember the legend that is Mr Harrison. Almost topped by Oasis at Finsbury park as well!

King Kurt still going?

a poor man's Meteors

Horses for courses , they are not comparable.

King Kurt were the best live show in town, no band has got close in recent years.

Yep KK ( well Smeg actually ) have started gigging again after being deported from Canada. Next one is probably back at the garage at Highbury Corner in the early part of 2004.
